On aiding another and some combat related questions

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Ok, so these issues cropped up during my second session:

1. When aiding another, am I allowed to use one of my spells to aid him? I remember my brother was fighting a shadow without the aid of any magic so I used my (magic missile? force missile?) to help him out. Are spells, weapons and armor actually useable to aid someone with?

2. If a creature (say a goblin with a 9 to beat) has only a combat check available and I have no spells in hand, can I use my (Seoni) charisma 1d12 + Arcane something +2 (1d12 + 2) to still make an attack against it or does the creature need to SPECIFICALLY say arcane/charisma/divine?

3. If have a character like a barbarian or a fighter with no weapons in hand and I come across a combat encounter, can I still roll my strength +2/+3 (from melee) against it or do I NEED a weapon to actually make an attack against it?

4. When a villain escapes, do I shuffle the villains and the blessings into the location decks?

5. If a card effect (like a monster or a 'when closing') says banish/bury/recharge a card or two, can the banish/bury/recharge effect of those cards still come into effect?

1. No, not spells with the Attack trait. You'll find that they say your combat check where your example details your brother's combat check.
2. No, you can use Strength or Melee in that way, but only Strength or Melee. Seoni has a Power that allows you, For a combat check, you may discard a card to roll your Arcane die +1d6 ([ ]+1) ([ ]+2) with the Attack, Fire, and Magic traits. This counts as playing a spell.
3. Yes.
4. Yes.
5. No.

Hi @cmastah - welcome to the wonderful world of PACG :)

1. Each character can use one of each type of boon and each of their powers once to help a check. E.g. play one legal spell, one item, one blessing, etc. However, the boons you play have to be legal to use in that situation. E.g. Harsk has a power that you can use to help characters in combat at different locations, Valeros helps people fighting at the same location.

The spells you mentioned CANNOT be used, because they say "your combat check". (@OberonViking - it's not because they have the Attack trait per se). However, you CAN use spells like Strength (if it's a check related to STR), Aid, Guidance etc.

2. If the creature has a combat check listed (not all creatures do, e.g. the Siren can only be beaten with Wisdom) then you can use any legal combat power. Seoni's power is a combat power so you use "1d12 + 1d6 + 2" and try to beat the Goblin's "Combat 9".

Note that this power of Seoni's CANNOT be used to pass an Arcane/Charisma/etc check. It can ONLY be used in Combat, even though you end up rolling your "Arcane die" for the combat check.

3. Yes, you can still use Melee even without a weapon in hand. (Imagine that they always carry some small weapons on them if it helps, or that they're really good at wrestling!)

4. Yes - take blessings from the blessings timer (or the box if you defeated the villain), shuffle them up then place one card onto each open location. Then shuffle each location that had a card added to it.

5. No - you just lose the cards and cannot 'activate' them in any way.

Thanks guys :)

I've got a feeling I'd better start fresh with a paladin or a cleric in that case :P
