Medieval Fantasy India campaign launched!

Homebrew and House Rules

My new group has consented to playing my Thousand Gods setting. I'm so excited!

We have a Muslim Alchemist, a Buddhist Monk, an Vidyadhara Archer, a Wisewoman/Witch (Mantrika), and a partially developed Paladin (she showed up late).

We're starting in a medieval city of scholars and libraries, criss-crossed by canals and filled with temples, in the wetlands of the south, not far from the haunted mountains and the tiger-infested jungles.

I'm using the Mythic Rules so the players can do minor avatars.

I'll be running the first session, "Yellow Blossoms, White Bones" in a few weeks.

That sound so cool. Too bad I'm probably a 1000 miles away from you. Good luck! I'm not familiar with the setting, but it looks nice.

Well, A Thousand Gods is my homebrew PF setting for India. It's about 75% done but needs playtesting and maturation in a fine oak barrel before its ready for publication.

Essentially, it's source material for Vudra, presented with a little love and obsessive detail.

Someday, if this campaign goes well, I might be able to finish & publish it, if only under my own brand.

I'm in Santa Cruz CA. I don't know how far away that is from you, but since I didn't say, maybe you inferred the Moon.

About 4000 miles from me, I'm on the east coast. If you ever complete it, I might be interested in it. There just isnt enough about central asia (india, the "stan" area, non arabian middle east) so it's cool to see some. I've been working on a "crossroads of the world" setting idea on the silk road.

Stoked to hear you are beginning playtesting this Jeff!!! Please post updates as tohow it comes together - your adventure name is evocative and your characters sound like they are really fleshing out the range of options.

Still, really wish I could go to a city of canals and libraries.

It's a more extravagant version of Kanchipuram. Tamil cities generally had a lot of canals.

That sounds really fun. If you ever publish something about the setting, I'd be quite interested.

3.0 had an Indian setting in Oriental Adventures that got cut for space, and ended up as a web-only supplement. Might be good for some ideas....

Yeah, I know. Too little of OA (that particular pdf reskins the clans of Rokugan) is portable to my stuff to really use much of it. I have ~250 pages of setting written up right now.

To be honest, I have what looks like 8 players. Which means an urban/hinterlands sandbox is more likely to be my route for running this than my original plan to write my own AP I had outlined. I'm still trying to figure this out. My draft notes had the characters taking on the roles of minor avatars and using the Mythic rules, but 8 mythic adventurers sounds like a steamroll of any and all threats, and I don't want to boost the encounters ridiculously.

Unless you are wanting to explicitly make your setting require Mythic, perhaps a bare bones approach is more broad scale applicable. Just a thought. I look forward to hearing more... I do understand the draw of Mythic avatars in your setting....

Well bad news...

I am moving again. My ex was given 60 days by her landlord so they can renovate her home and raise the rent, and she's moving 45 minutes to an hour away (closer to her job). I am with my daughter 50%-70% of the time, but we share custody. I can't keep up two hour-long commutes 3-4 days a week for long, so I'll have to move. That means my fancy India campaign is going to be short lived.

I also really clicked with the new players - a religion scholar/tailor, an Iranian gamer, a chill older guy, a geek woman, and a long-time gamer. There are perks to living in Surf City.

On the other hand, for your perusal, an article on Indian step wells.

Anyone in the Pacific Grove/Monterey area into South Asian settings?
