My experience with sandbox-style games is that they tend to cater to the "lowest common denominator." Legal systems don't protect the population in any sort, but more of a rationale-cap on ass-hatery so that a game doesn't turn into a complete cess-pool of virtual crime. I can point to a bazillion examples of butt-head activity in EVE. I can only think of one example where people did a "WTF" and stood up for someone else. While this isn't a definitive example, and probably shows my lack of in-depth knowledge in the game (I only have five characters and run a corporation of just me because I've been ripped off or ganked, etc. far too often,) it does show that I personally don't have the mindset to excel very well on my own in a game with this format.
I have three courses of action ahead of me since I actually spent quite a bit on my Kickstarter account:
1) Not play the game and let that money go to waste.
2) Gift my account to someone else to use and abuse.
3) Link up with an organization that is going to be able to use someone who tries to be a "good guy" IRL and tends towards lawful good in alignment in games.
I'd like to at least try to enjoy this game before getting angry and stomping off. With that being said, I really need to find a group of people that can put me to use in their organization. I definitely PVP, and I might even occasionally cold-gank someone out of spite. However, I'm not an exploiter or griefer. If you have room for someone of my personal mindset, let me know. I'd like to find some sort of home before the game goes early-live (I should be among the first early adopters being let in based upon Kickstarter purchase and date of enrollment.)

I think The Empyrean Order is really the best organization for you, and not just because I'm the leader.
TEO is an organization dedicated to helping people and the ideal of "just because the game allows you to do something doesn't mean you should."
We are the kind of organization that stands up for people, and while you may not have experienced that mentality working well in these kind of games before, I come from these kind of games and know that with the right mindset you can actually be surprisingly successful.
PAX from all my understanding is a pretty typical organization with some rules of conduct on how they should act but taking the fight to the griefers and making the game better for other players isn't their primary focus.
So if you want a group that can protect you from the kind of behavior you're upset with then Pax might be able to meet your needs. If you want to have your revenge while protecting others from suffering the same abuse, TEO is where you want to be.
We do not walk an easy path, but there are none more satisfying.

This is not the place, Andius, but that is a terrible representation of Pax Aeternum.

I don't have a tiger in this race... LOL, I couldn't resist.
@Tiger Dave,
Welcome from The Unmamed Company, we are not the "good guys", but we are not griefers either. Just a company of your resident, unapologetic, bandits, assassins, mercenaries and smugglers.
I hope the two or three of them fight over you, it will give me a break for a bit. ;P

Hello TigerDave,
I represent Pax Aeternum. Unlike Andius and our friends at TEO, we won't presume to tell you what other companies are and are not going to do. It's not that we don't know or we don't care, it's simply not our style.
So, let's compile some things Pax has done.
We had the 2nd PA in Star Wars Galaxies, in the world. Oh, and our server was not available until two days after launch.
Professionalism - We have legal, art, web design, and promotional talent that can be utilized in alliances. You can trust that any alliance, contract, or group effort where Pax is involved will have a professional touch to it.
Numbers - Our organization contributed more than sixty crowdforgers into the kickstarter, but that represents a staggeringly small amount of our community. Thrice or more of our membership will be entering the last waves of launch for this game should it end up being a successful MMO. Of our thousand or so membership, around a quarter represent players always on the lookout for a new sandbox.
Humility - It's a trait we have gained over the years. Are we a big guild? Yes, yes we are. Do we know it? Yes, yes we do. Will we flaunt it in your face? Nope. Will we go out of our way to help out our friends? Yes, especially if it means they'll have a better experience in whatever game they're in.
Honest/Honorable - It's the cornerstone to tenant number 2 of our contract system. For more on that, check out our charter and the Aeternum Agreement on the Wiki.
Invested: We don't play games half-heartedly. Our members have invested their time and money into this game, and we have plans to be a backbone presence in the game. We have members who vollenteer time to PfO fan content.
Engaged: We have many members involved in continually building RP storyline, bio's, and we work to keep our CC's up-to-date with the current state of the game so the functionality of our Kingdom works in harmony with game mechanics. While waiting for Early Access, we have plans for Forum RP and even Pathfinder Table-Top games to keep things from getting stale in the long wait.
Legacy: We were with SWG from the time our server opened, till the time the game was closed down. Other MMO's we've played since beta or release, and still have a great presence. This is what we do. We've got 8 divisions dedicated to games and another 8 plus common branches that are dedicated to MOBAs, Sci-Fi MMOs, other fantasy MMOs. You name it, we more than likely play it.
Wisdom: We've tried many many styles of running guilds in a variety of game genre's, including Sandbox MMO's. Through our own history we have learned what works and what doesn't, and how to overcome obstacles unique to this style of game.
Patience/Persistence: Even after we had numbers dwindle to less than 5 in two major MMOs, we were able to revive them to become productive members of their respective communities.
Longevity: We've been at this for 12 plus years. We've got a tested leadership structure and team. Where other companies might feign activity or sit around and talk about what to do with the reigns of their organization because their leaders have burnt out or simply don't have time anymore for one reason or another... we've got that covered. It's happened before. We've persevered, learned, grown, and are better because of it. In the end, there is no one that will have to bail Pax Aeternum out. Pax Aeternum will persevere.
So back to my original statement TigerDave. We aren't going to tell you who is the best fit for you or why you should choose us over anyone else. All I ask is that you give us a look, and if we seem like something you like, make a forum account with us and fill out an application.
Thanks for your time.
Thane-Blade Areks Kel'goran
Pax Aeternum

TigerDave (like the name, by the way):
I strongly suggest you do what I did - take some time to browse through Nihimon's very handy list, poke around different organizations' threads here and their forums elsewhere, and chat with some people from each. There's no huge rush, and getting the right fit is a priority. Also, PFOFan has a TeamSpeak server set up, which really helped me get to know a few people better, as chatting is a lot better than hurling blocks of text at each other. I'll try and find the linky thingy for that. (Edit: Never mind, Nihimon's on it! It's in the link Bringslite posted above, under "Popular Player Threads.")
And please do stick around for the game; the community so far is overwhelmingly positive!

Before you jump in to a group, read for a while. There are several groups that will be good, even LG, patrollers and paladins. Some are race based (Deepforge Company are Dwarves, Taur-im-Duinath are elves and half-elves), some focus on crafting, some are military only.
A few have a large voting block in the Land Rush list (sticky at the top of the boards) including the Kingdom of Aeternum (Pax Gaming), The Empyrean Order, The Seventh Veil, Keepers of the Circle and Knights of the Crusader Road. (Those are the top five.)
Take your time. You have a few months to ponder.
