Does This Path Have Any Alignment Assumptions?

Wrath of the Righteous

Liberty's Edge

Most APs seem specifically designed for play by characters of any alignment. Skull & Shackles had a distinct lean against lawful; good characters and paladins specifically, making it rather problematic on a several occasions.

This path seems to be almost the exact opposite, making it the paladin path almost. When I run this (and I will be running this) I want to be aware of any issues that may arise from the 'oh no evil characters, that's fine I'll just play chaotic neutral with evil tendencies' type of players. It's not a big deal for me to impose a ruling that allows only good characters and I don't see my players having any kind of real issue with that aside from a token complaint that is quickly forgotten.

I have no problem going so far as telling all my players to make paladins with heavy use of archetypes. lol

I too would be interested to hear.
If the 'Righteous are Wrathful' I'm guessing more Lawful than Good?

Liberty's Edge

I'm sure anyone not a cultist of Deskari would be interested in stopping the spread of the Worldwound but this certainly seems geared toward the paladin end of the spectrum.

As a side note, in Pathfinder paladins have become one of my favorite classes. I never really played them before because, while kind of neat they got mired down by their own poor abilities, but now they are powerhouses with a lot of fun things they can do.

There's plenty of not-good in Mendev. There's a whole PrC dedicated to the Low Templars, the not-so-righteous members of the crusade. It's well-known that a good portion of those coming to fight aren't in it for the right reasons.

There's definitely lots of room for a paladin, but it's by no means the "paladin path". You could play an inquisitor of Iomedae who's joined up with the Burners (think Salem witch trials in the worst way), a criminal from Lastwall sent to fight to work off his punishment, a mercenary in it for the gold, a Kellid barbarian descended from the people of Sarkoris (the barbarian kingdom that got wiped off the map when the Worldwound opened). A vocal minority here on the boards are going to be playing followers of Asmodeus. There's lots of room for characters of all stripes.

The AP assumes that the party is composed of characters who want to fight the demons of the Worldwound and who are willing to be part of the Mendev crusade to do so. The crusaders themselves are pretty accepting of all sorts of characters and by extension alignments.

That said, this is probably the best AP for paladins we've ever published. The adventure path doesn't punish you at all for not having any lawful good characters though.

And as for the "law" vs. "good" angle... the AP is more "good" friendly than "lawful" friendly, I suppose.

Groovy, good to know. I will inform my players of this and let the chips fall where they may. Though it seems that you fine designers have made my girlfriend fall in love with the paladin as much as I have, which is quite the feat since paladins were kind of a throwaway class for the both of us previously. She will likely end up being the party's moral compass again.
