Using Eranax

Kingmaker

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Has anyone thought about using Eranax, the fey creature silver dragon from "Dragons Unleashed"? It seems a natural for the Kingmaker AP.

Dang. Now I have another book to buy.

Given Kingmaker has a silver dragon already - the dead one in VV, killed by Ilthuliak - that would be an easy place to put it in, should the PCs find the body and decide to resurrect it.

Or have a relative show up and demand to know what happened.

I have Perlivash set up as a silver dragon in disguise--the brother of the dragon killed, actually.

Ruyan.

While not stated explicitly, it is pretty obvious that Erunax is that silver dragon's daughter.

I don't have Dragons Unleashed so that's not info that was previously available to me.

Now I have to pick it up.

EDIT: And bought. Now to skim through it tonight - hopefully for a lair I can steal for the King of the Forest ;)

Hmm... gas or book...

This is a tough choice.

Were you able to get home with your new book?

I was excited to see Eranex and plan on using her in my campaign. My PCs just hit 12th level in book 4 but they barely explored any of the area in book 3 so I think that will be a good hook to get them thinking of that area again. They'll hear rumors of dragon sightings in the their frontier towns (maybe it flies overhead near sunset and its silver scales reflect red?). I figure they'll be about 13th or 14th level at the time, so I may even have Eranex let them borrow Vesper for a bit since I have the Artifacts and Legends book. Also, I like the idea of the followers of Count Ranalc and that will be a nice tie in with Nyrissa.

"Followers"? I'm not familiar with that. Care to explain?

If I'm remembering correctly, Eranex is having a problems with some of the fey which are servants of Count Ranalc, Nyrissa's lover that was banished to the Shadow Realm. I thought there was a cleric in the bunch but I'm at work so I don't have the book available.

Yep. An Ankou, a Rusalka with some class levels that I can't recall, a level-15 (I think) Fetchling cleric, and a trio of Shae bards.

For those of us not familiar with Eranax, can you elaborate?

She's who the whole thread is about =P The fey-templated silver dragon in Dragons Unleashed.

The story, summed up, is that the silver dragon Silverstep - whose lair is suspiciously close to the one mentioned in VV - disappeared into the First World for some time, then quite a while later this younger dragon shows up trying to get into his lair to retrieve a fey artifact (Vesper's Rapier, look it up on the PFSRD if you don't have the artifacts book), but the lair is now overrun by Count Ranalc's minions seeking to open a breach to bring him back to the Prime.

I gathered! I was asking specifically how it's implied that Eranax is the silver dragon from Kingmaker's daughter.

Thanks for the background.

Ah, misunderstood =)

In her entry, it mentions that Silverstep followed his "otherwordly" lover into the First World. Centuries later, there are sightings of a strange silver dragon which has the fey template. Also, it mentions she is Silverstep's daughter and wants to learn her father's fate (think he got killed by the Ilthuliak from book 6). So, its a neat way to foreshadow how much of a danger Ilthuliak is. Also, I can use the quest for the sword to do a little more exposition on Nyrissa's relationship to Count Ranalc.

Given I've moved my Kingmaker to my own homebrew world and out of Golarion, there's a bit of landscape change; one of the major things is that dragons are a Big Deal in the region, and between the King of the Forest (bumped up to Forest Dragon instead of Forest Drake IMC), Ilthuliak, Choral (now a Blue instead of a Red), Mister J, Eater-of-Kings, and a few others the PCs are soon going to be in desperate need of their own draconic ally. My original plan was to "encourage" them to resurrect Silverstep; however that plan may go by the wayside now that I have Dragons Unleashed and can just have them meet Eranax instead.

The lair, as written, seems like it would be a pretty high level challenge (Rusalka with 8 witch levels probably about a CR 16, assuming that she's not a spellcasting role) that would be suitable for the PCs somewhere in book six. I'd, ideally, like to have my PCs encounter this while doing kingdom building between books 4 and 5. It'll depend on time, which I usually don't have a lot of, on whether or not to stat up toned down versions of the followers or just replace them with CR appropriate fey out of the bestiaries. Probably the latter. I think introducing Eranex will be helpful when my player's go up against Irovetti's robot army (thank you, Inner Sea Bestiary).

My group's already ahead of the curve - just hit level 11 in an interlude session between Ch2 and Ch3 - so this should be right on track for them as an encounter after dealing with Vordakai.

But for a normal group yeah I'd put it after Armag. Maybe have someone in the recently-reclaimed Varnhold send reports of odd activity in the mountains to the PCs.

... and now after dealing with the King of the Forest, my group is talking about wanting to find a good-aligned dragon to ally with, with the looming threat of other dragons moving in on the King's territory now that the PCs have offed him and his consort. Every attempt by one party member to ally with the King was shot down by at least one other party member, who really seems to have a thing about not trusting evil dragons (which, admittedly, isn't a bad thing to have).

So if the group goes looking for one to ally with, I might point them toward tales of Silverstep, and when they go looking for him have them run into Eranax instead.

I am tempted to have Eranax just show up in the capital in a humaniod form claiming to be a fey princess from the First World in need of help to recover her father's treasure stash. It won't be until the group delves the caves that they discover that she and her father are dragons.

I also plan on keeping her fathers acid melted bones in the lair, but in a part she hadn't been able to access yet.

Orthos, who is the "king of the forest"?

In the original KM, that's the nickname of the Forest Drake in Rivers Run Red.

In my own game, since my PCs are several levels ahead of the expected curve, I upgraded him to Forest Dragon instead.

I was just reading this book and thought I'd post a thread just like this. Day late and a copper short, but good to see ideas already poppin' up.

I'd love to use Eranax in my own KM game, but as a full dragon, im not sure where and how to fit her in. These ideas help.

Just wrote up my group's two-session run of Eranex's quest.

They've now hired her to be the kingdom's representative against the dragons of the wilderness to the west and north, which in my homebrew is a barbaric land controlled by dragons in an eon-spanning game of living chess. They gave her Howl's lair as her place (after cleaning it out) and will probably offer her cuts of their treasure in the future.
