Swords and Wizardry game session

Am enjoying PaizoCon. Just finished a game called "Character Killing Session" run by the always entertaining Bill Webb. According to Bill, we were the first party to survive this one-shot Swords and Wizardry session. Bill thinks he's getting soft.

We had fun in the 2 night Swords and Wizardry game with him as well! 17 people played and it was a blast!

17 person party, it was like a class field trip where everything is trying to kill you.

I was able to make that first night open S&W game (on Friday) and had a blast.

I was the Dwarf Fighter with the "stick" as his weapon.

When speaking with Bill afterwards, he indicated the Saturday night game survived as well. He could only shake his head.

Bill has told me more than once that he isn't a 'brutal' GM, he just rolls it how it is, no fudging. Maybe it's just the players are getting smarter!

Although those cards he hands out has really saved a lot of characters!

Awesome you guys!

I do have to say, in Bill's defense, he ain't getting soft. it's a lot easier to survive these encounters when there are 12-17 characters in a session (I am able to occasionally able to show up in his home game, with his 2 kids, and 2 God-children; its deadly, we run alot!)

I know he had a blast with all you, and I enjoyed Saturday as Saturday night as well (after surviving something akin to food poisoning during the day)

As long as you guys enjoy the swords& wizardry, we'll keep doing it!

Skeeter

Had a blast playing my Magic-User and barely surviving in the Sunday game. Who knew Magic-Users were such great shots with Holy Water flasks? And who knew throwing a naked cleric at a Brass Golem could turn out so well?

Also, kudos to his daughter--not just for reportedly being a good GM in her own game, but for being such a great sport about the whole "PC killed twice" thing. Even I'd be a bit miffed about that, but that's Swords and Wizardry for ya!

Round 2. Coming in July!

Woooh can't wait! Last year using the cockatrice's feathers to stone the blue dragon was the most fun I've had in awhile.

I'd like to think it was my idea to use the feathers but our whole party worked well.

Can't wait to catch up with you guys, Skeeter and Bill.

Rawr...fresh off a successful NTRPG--we are well playtested and ready!

Didn't get into the Swords&Wizardry game, but that's ok as my plane leaves at 7am on Sunday (so I probably would have had to forgo sleep). I did get the Rappan Athuk mystery level event, so I'm excited for that. Looking forward to meeting the Frog God crew again (I met Bill last GenCon).

I got in via the lottery, and I'm very excited! But since the description has mysteriously disappeared off the schedule, can anyone remind me what materials I should bring?

Bring dice, pencils, problem solving skills, possibly tissues...
There are pregens available, or you can roll up your own. It takes maybe 10 minutes to generate a new character.

Not sure when I'm going to make PaizonCon again, but really going to miss Bill's Sword & Wizardry session. Played last year with about 15-20 other players and had a blast.

Are the rule set or the pregens available on-line anywhere?

We will roll up at the table. All you need is dice, a pencil and minis. The rules are online on our website for free in pdf--they also can be had in the Paizo store for free

ps--this year will be focused on traps and puzzles. Keep in mind, S&W is FAR more lethal than most games, and stats are almost irrelevant. Bring your brain too!

I'll have all 6 of my "kids" (my 2 and 4 others that I see many days each week) here this year. Two run games as well, and are quite talented.

Lil’ Frog actually is making her dad look soft now. Is she still racking up those TPKs, Bill? :)

Mine won't be available, but I have a plan. Thank god for Majuba!

I'm in.

I wonder if I can locate Freckles II from a S&W pickup game two years or so ago. She was still level 1, IIRC...

Freckles II was a survivor!

Sasha still has the staff Freckles helped us obtain with her demon-trapping shenanigans. Of course there are only a few charges remaining. Just used two to save a young adventurer from certain death after being swallowed by a Grue in Matt's game at NTRPG con.

I may have to sit in on this one, Voice of Reason and all that....

Grand Lodge

I looked everywhere and couldn't find Freckles II. It was a pickup game when I built and played her; I seem to recall that Bill kept her when I left the table. Don't suppose he still has that character sheet floating around...if not, I may have to roll up Freckles III!

Awesome game and awesome group--17 folks played and 8 survived. More would have, except they lined up nicely for my blue dragon to zap a bunch at the very end.

Big fun at a great convention--huge thanks to Lisa, Erik, Liz, Jeff and most of all Sara Marie for showing the frogs a great time as usual. We cannot wait until next year!

Grand Lodge

Man, wish I had hung out until the blue dragon. Or at least to see how the render turned out. :)
