Jatembe and the Magic Warriors Ideas

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

So my party has recently made a stop over in Nantambu and I really want to have some actual personalities and icons to show to the group as they wander around. I'm planning on playing them as a Mages Justice League more than anything else, with kids wearing masks and people int he area growing up with their stories and having their favorite Warriors as kids.

I've only seen very sketched out details, and I can likely make up a lot, but I'm asking for some quick brainstorms for fun Mwangi-style super heroes. Thanks.

Maybe something like this?

The Mage's Justice League

Gorilla - King of the Jungle, Strong and Intelligent
Jaguar - Strong and Beautiful
Elephant - Strong and Wise

Hippo - Tough and Wise
Bear - Strong and Tough
Boar -Tough and Fast

Lemur - Fast and Intelligent
Eagle - Fast and Wise
Gazelle - Fast and Beautiful

Crocodile - Intelligent and Wise

I'd use Hyena (Sarcastic and Practical) and Spider (Cunning and a Maker) instead of Boar and Bear, simply for colour.

Having Jatembe's Ten Magic Warriors be the very first Magus' in the world, and the city still being the center of the worlds largest Magus academy (with various branches teaching other forms of combined arcane magic and fighting, such as Bardic arts and Eldritch Knight training and Arcane Archery), could be cool. (Tons of 3rd party and 3.X options could also be looked at, like SGG's Archon or Vanguard, or GR's Thanemage, or Monte's Mageblade, Runethane or Eldritch Warrior, or PrCs like the Abjurant Champion or Sueloise whatever-it-was-called, etc.)

Even the bog-standard Fighters in the city might know a few spells, such as cantrips, through Feats, or a special 'Magic Warrior' Archetype, while Wizards in the city might have their own 'Warrior Mage' Archetype that focuses on more effective use of traditional wizard weapons like the quarterstaff and dagger, and the ability to cast and fight more effectively (such as TWF with staff or daggers, and able to use a full round action to cast a spell and make one of their TWF attacks at the same time). Very few Fighters or Wizards in the city would see their arts as antithetical, and finding ways to mix the two aspects might be seen as a wiser road.

Using the 3.X Abjurant Champion or the various 3rd party 'Death Knight' options as a base, you could even make eight of the ten 'Magic Warriors' themed off of schools of magic, with one using protective abjuration magics combined with shield-fighting, and smashing away protective spells on his foes with his magic shield bases, and another using necromancy magic to 'deaden' his flesh and become nearly as unkillable as one of the undead, while also sapping and devitalizing those he strikes. Add illusion, evocation, etc. variations, and there's eight of the ten already done, with a bardic themed 'magic warrior' and a sorcerous 'magic warrior' to round them out.
