[Interjection Games] Looking to have a random generator built for a product - offering one of everything written thus far as compensation

Product Discussion

Hi there! I'm currently cooking up random tables for greater shard generation for One Bling to Rule Them All. Looking it over, however, I doubt many players would want to consult 5 tables and write it all down when a machine could easily roll and concatenate the results.

I'm looking for somebody to take the two sets of five tables that I'm cooking up (a total of 200 entries) and make a little standalone executable that lets the user randomly generate a mid level greater shard or a high level greater shard. All it has to do is spit out the abilities in a nice-looking list and then list the "emotions" of the crystal up top. No worries - I'll cook up a requirements document with the formatting I'd like.

Compensation for this project will be the entire current Interjection Games catalog at the time of the release of the product containing your work. This should be somewhere in the vicinity of $70. I'm not going to hyperventilate about deadlines. As it is, I'll just release without this and advertise its inclusion later if it looks like it needs to be that way. This will make it a nice, low stress project. Of course, given that approach, the coupon for the .pdfs will be given on receipt of a working executable.

Toss me a PM if you're interested.

Edit:

And author credit, of course.

Did you ask Mordiken? You posted in his Monster Generator thread already...

No point in asking him if I have the same payment attached to it, mate.

That being said, thanks for reminding me about that tool! :)

Wouldn't hurt to try - Mordiken already made the monster generator well before you offered anything, and what you envisage doesn't seem like it would take much coding...
Maybe you could offer something else, more specofic to Mordiken's needs...and it might be a good idea to have one person handling or at least creating both generators...

Just trying to help - I'm sure there are plenty coders on here... ;)

Aye, you do have a point there. I could offer to do up a ten page .pdf on a topic he wants so long as it isn't business suicide.

Curious. When you say "executable", did you have a primary platform in mind? Something that runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, etc. is a little different than something that would just run on one of them.

Did you specifically want a stand-alone executable or would a web-accessible utility be something that would work better--though it would require Internet connectivity of course.

I'd like it to be downloadable with the rest of the product. That being said, if your solution is to make it open on an HTML page that is included with the download, that works too.

The best I can personally do is include a Ruby script file and require that the downloader has Ruby, hence me being here. (I haven't started Rails.)

I can do it for you. I'll think about what exactly I want a pdf of, I have a pretty good idea of something I could use help with already.

The application doesn't sound like it'd take very long to cook up from your description, as long as you're alright with a .jar file that uses Java (almost every machine has Java 6).

I'll PM you with my email address to talk about it more. =)

Righto, mate. I'm up to several interested parties, so think about what you'll want from me and I'll get to examining my options on Friday or so. The tables themselves are turning into a pain to create, as every option has to be generic enough to provide some benefit for every possible type of character build. I've got about 75 of the 200 entries finished thus far.

Needless to say, I moved away from the tables to the creation of the 300 lesser crystal abilities and 30 +/- named Nexus crystals needed to populate the document.

I may be interested if you still need the help. I've written a couple generators already for my site:

You can shoot me an email if you need help still: asknethys@karuikage.net

I'll stick with the people who've sent out offers already, sir. If this works out, I'll have another project that could use a generator by the end of the month.
