The Serenity RPG came out in 2005 and uses Cortex Classic. That was based on the movie by Universal. The new Firefly RPG employs Plus and is centered upon the TV show by Fox. We will not be addressing what happens in the Serenity film, because they are two separate licenses.
Plus plays very differently from Classic does. They are two separate systems. In Plus, you and the GM will build dice pools that have a minimum of two dice. The GM will set the stakes and add the two highest dice totals. You, as a player, will attempt to raise them with yours. Plot Points, which are the currency of the RPG, will allow both to do a variety of things like buy Complications when a player's dice get jinxed (e.g. player rolls a "1"), buy Assets, etc.
Our Gen Con preview allows people to get a feel for the Episodes (e.g. adventures) and the system ahead of the corebook release to see if it's something they'd like to play.

So what's the deal with the upcoming Margaret Weis rpg?
Its differences compared to the Serenity rpg ?
Anybody with info?
I picked up a copy at GENCON.
It is not the whole game, but enough to get started.
You have dice pools now where you pick the highest two results. You can improve your chances of winning in one of two ways. You can roll larger dice, e.g., D8 vs D6, or you can add more dice for situations and by spending plot points.
You get plot points through a variety of mechanisms in play. It's lineage to the Serenity RPG is still fairly clear. While the mechanic of chopping at the two highest dice is new, the idea of attributes and skills combining plus specializations is still at the core of the rules.
In service,
Rich

That vaguely reminds me of the ubiquity system
