The Serenity RPG came out in 2005 and uses Cortex Classic. That was based on the movie by Universal. The new Firefly RPG employs Plus and is centered upon the TV show by Fox. We will not be addressing what happens in the Serenity film, because they are two separate licenses.
Plus plays very differently from Classic does. They are two separate systems. In Plus, you and the GM will build dice pools that have a minimum of two dice. The GM will set the stakes and add the two highest dice totals. You, as a player, will attempt to raise them with yours. Plot Points, which are the currency of the RPG, will allow both to do a variety of things like buy Complications when a player's dice get jinxed (e.g. player rolls a "1"), buy Assets, etc.
Our Gen Con preview allows people to get a feel for the Episodes (e.g. adventures) and the system ahead of the corebook release to see if it's something they'd like to play.
