A package from order number #2573010 containing Dark Waters Rising Hardcover, Flip-Mat Arcane, Chronicle of the Righteous and Fey Revisited was labelled 'Accessories' at $69.16
This attracted £19.51 in charges (about $30) being VAT at 20% and £8 collection fee.
If it had been labelled as 3 books and 1 accessories, then the books would have been 0% rated for VAT. VAT is not collected until the value of items reaches £15, so the flip-mat at $11.19 would not have been charged for.
This one was a printed label, and I've made sure to keep hold of the box and all of the paperwork.
Is it possible to make the customs declaration more detailed in future?

If you could send a photo of the label to customer service, that would be great. It *should* have identified the contents as 3 books and 1 accessory.

We just reprinted the label here, and everything is listed correctly on the new copy, so we're really interested in seeing that photo. Please make sure it shows the complete label!
Several images inbound by email. The label on the front of the box in the plastic pouch and one stuck to the back of the box are misprinted as detailed above. A third label which seems to have the information you got on the reprint was stuck underneath the one on the back of the box and I've managed to partially expose it by pealing away the corner of the top label.

We have confirmed that the customs data we printed, as well as the data we transmitted electronically to the shipper, was correct. We're now trying to determine who modified that data after it left out hands.
Excellent - it didn't really feel credible that it was a mistake on your end, barring a bizarre software bug. Your customer service is normally top notch.
Good luck with tracking down the numpty that is sticking incorrect labels over yours. At a guess, they are creating them by hand and saving time by just putting one line that approximates the first line on your label.
Edit : I wonder if they are doing it so that the labels are duplicated front and back?

Order number 2580885 just arrived,
Two, non-overlapping labels on the top of the box only. Both made out as 6 books and 1 dice/accessories. One is a Paizo label, the other USPS.
Arrived without being held or assessed for VAT as the non-book component was only $11.19.
I'm very relieved, as that would have been ~$19 in unnecessary fees if it had been mislabelled.
Has the problem been found and fixed or is it just 'luck of the gods'?

I was wondering why my August subscription was taking so long (the parcel that shipped before the card problem)...
Arrived today with a Paizo label on the front for 1 Dice/Accessories and 3 Books. On the back, a United States Postal Service Customs Declaration for 'Merchandise'. Luckily, the ink was so faint on the second label that I think the UK Border Force just held on to the parcel for a while and then decided to believe the label on the front - it didn't appear to have been opened.
I have photos if that helps.
I do hope that this is something that you can fix. Having the cost of my parcels randomly increased by 25%-50% just isn't sustainable - I've had no luck recovering the costs incurred on the previous parcel.

Another data point. The second parcel of my subscription order arrived, again with a USPS label on the bottom. However, this time the USPS label read 'books' which would have been OK from a UK customs perspective. This is likely due to the parcel containing only books and the Paizo label having only 'books' listed on it.
Is there any way you could set up separate packaging of non-book items in subscription orders that are to be shipped overseas? That would work around the problem.

I know the current system doesn't allow that (I asked the other day), it'd be nice if they could look into adding it as an option though. The only thing stopping me from being a maps subscriber right now is the fear of a $100 package of books being hit with $30+ of tax and collection fees just because of a $10 map included.
