Paladin mounts in RoW

Reign of Winter

What is everyone's opinion on what mounts I can make available for paladin PCs.

It just seems that a horse would be largely useless given the environment. Or would that be restricted in the first 2 adventures?

I would encourage the weapon bond aspect of that paladin ability. Not many adventures end up suitable for mounted characters (which is of course the largest drawback of the cavalier class…)

our gmpc is a night of ozem cleric going into holy vindicator and he rides a horse and its damn effective, but then again he randomly rolled up some horseshoes of a zephyr for some loot and they make him a powerhouse

Semi-related...

I have a player in my game who will be playing a Beast Rider cavalier, and will be working up to a polar bear mount. (The funny part, he asked for this before I told them which AP we were going to be running.)

I'm pretty confident in how I can make that work. But here's the off the wall question.

Once they get to Triax, I *know* he's going to want a dragon mount. Is there anything in the module that addresses how that could work. I could probably convince him to Prestige into Mammoth Rider if that would make a difference.

There is a part of the module to suggest making it work. But main one seems to be increasing the challenge of the remaining fights.

Doesn't really suggest how to balance it for other PCs though...

The Dragonkin is an intelligent creature, so it'll never be an animal companion or subject to stuff that works with animal companions.

However, a custom prestige class for dragonkin riders, possibly working off of Mammoth Rider, that advances the dragonkin along with the rider, could work.

Dragonkin are CR 9 intelligent critters with breath weapons AND weapon use, so they're a bit more bad-ass than normal, or even abnormal, animal companions.

That is where leadership can be used

Why? The NPCs in The Frozen Stars prove that one doesn't need Leadership to bond with a dragonkin, and at CR 9 a dragonkin couldn't be a cohort of a level 10 PC anyway.
