I used the link under the GM/Event Coordinator tab of the Pathfinder Society account to create ten Pathfinder Society Cards.
I am trying to report an event that included a new player that I gave one of these cards, but the event will not accept the new number (citing it as an invalid number).
The card states to go to paizo.com/pathfindersociety to activate the account. The only link I can find on that page that sounds correct is labeled Join the Pathfinder Society and create your character now! whose address is http://paizo.com/pathfinderSociety/myAccount, but when the link is clicked, the page is redirected to http://paizo.com/paizo.
It looks to me that Paizo does not currently have an error page for bad links, so it is automatically redirecting to http://paizo.com/paizo.
Is there another way I can go about registering this new membership for this new player? I cannot add him to the event until I get his account resolved.

Also, it would really be helpful if there was a link on the paizo.com/pathfindersociety page that says something like 'Got a new Pathfinder Society card? Activate your Pathfinder Society membership HERE.

In order to use that link, make sure you're logged into a Paizo account that doesn't have a PFS number. If you're NOT logged in (as in, it says "Welcome, guest!" up top), I've seen it do the redirect you're describing.
If this is the case, simply create a Paizo website account, then use that link to activate the PFS number.

If you are just reporting the event (not actually activating the society membership for the player, which you shouldn't do) then it shouldn't matter if they have activating membership with their assigned number on the card. I've reported several tables which involved new players, and I'm pretty sure many of them I reported before they created a paizo account, let alone attached their new number to it).
If you *are* trying to activate membership for the new player, its probably best to just give that player the card you printed out and let them do it. If they are having trouble with it, walk them through it. Just don't do it for them.*
*Disclaimer: Unless that person is your mom, who won't do it on her own so you have to do it for her.

Initially, I was just trying to report the event. When I encountered the error (stating the new PFS number was not valid), so I then assumed it was because the membership was not activated.
At the time, I was certain that the player had not activated the account as I was reporting the results of the game about an hour or so after it finished.
However, I tried again this morning and this time the site accepted the number.
If it is as dust Raven says that the number should have been accepted even if it was not activated, then there must have been a hiccup with paizo's website at the time.
