Sanam walks through the woods peacefully minding his business, until suddenly Sanam becomes a PC and I cant control him anymore. Do with him what you will.

Liberty's Edge

Female Elf Commoner/1

After a long day of scouting his father's lands, Sanam is drawn back to his small camp. Last night's fire is dwindling out but there are still enough hot coals to rebuild and in no time he is able to bring the warmth of the fire back to life.

The days are growing shorter and soon the melt will come yet winter still holds true. Within an hour, the two rabbits from the day's snares are consumed and the camp set back into proper order.

The latter half of a full moon begins to rise. Sanam peers up at the orbiting mass in awe. The moon has always brought this emotion forth.

Sanam whispers to himself as much as the view, "time for bed my friend." He starts towards his bedding but stops.

The faint crackling of leaves is heard in the distance.

Pawlak's ears perk up as does the fur on his back.

Company was not expected tonight. Orcs, goblins, a worg! Whatever is coming, it is not doing it stealth-fully.

Saman quietly draws his greatsword.

As Sanam stands listening a group of orcs walks out of the shadows weapons drawn. Initiative please.

Liberty's Edge

Female Elf Commoner/1

Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 10

How many do I see?

"Halt," Sanam says in common. "Who are you and what is your business on Natreb lands?"

Pawlak is poised to strike, but I hold him back with a signal.

There are 2 orcs.
Initiative order: orc, Sanam, orc, orc
"That is none of you business savage"

The orc who just spoke then proceeds to charge you with a falchion.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 = 8

My dog charges the orc to flank. I assume the dog will hit on the side and I will have to side step to get the flank. I will add the flank only for me this round.

Dog's attack(random + bite + charge): 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 2 = 14
Dog's damage if hits: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Dog's free trip if he hits: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Sanam's attack(random + greatsword + flank): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 2 = 17
Sanam's damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14

"Stand down or die!"

before you can even get to him your dog drops the orc. Since your target was down before you went I will say you can go for the other one. He's also down.

Sorry it took so long for me to reply. RL interrupted me :)

I will try to bandage the orcs.

If I have to choose between the two, I am most interested in the first one that charged me and spoke.

Heal on orc that spoke: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Heal on the other orc: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

After the heal attempt(s), I will search their bodies. I will then dispose of the corpse(s) far from where I am camped (at least 200 yards).

Finally, I will try to cover the trail they took into my camp and the fight.

Survival for cover-up: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

well seeing as you have time you can take ten on hiding the trail.

well seeing as you have time you can take ten on hiding the trail.
as for loot you get 2 suits of studded leather, 2 falchions, 4 javelins, and 13 gold.

You also find a folded piece of parchment on the first orc.

I am going to change my alias to a name more fitting for this thread.

Was I able to heal an orc?

As long as the armor and weapons look sellable, I will keep them. They go into my sack for traveling purposes.

I will open the parchment and try to read it.

unfortunately no healing happened. As for the parchment It is what appears to be an assassination order for you.

Strange.

In that case, I will rest for the night and try to back track the orcs' path. I assume as it being dark, tracking would be futile.

I will stash the weapons and armor in one of my many holes and head out in the morning.

survival please

Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

you successfully track the orcs back to the main road leading to your home town.

Do orcs live in my home town?

A few as mercenaries/sellswords not many.

I will head into town with the orcs' weapons and armor. Can I tell anything about the armor itself, if they were part of a mercenary band or is it rather nondescript?

It's pretty generic.

I will take the gear in and sell it.

I will also ask the people I normally trust in the town about the handwriting of the contract. See if I can get a sense of who might have sent the orcs after me.

Additionally, I would like to ask them who is most likely to employ orcs for assassinations.

I will ask each of the people I trust to keep this disturbing news to themselves.

The gear is in pretty crappy condition and you get a total of 30gp for it. Of the people you ask the consensus seems to be that one of two lower class noble probably did it, both have been complaining about your antics.

What are the names of the nobles?

I will head to my father's castle and check in. While I am there, I will speak with my father's steward about the two nobles. I will do my best to avoid my father.

Oh sorry there names are Osrick and Kain. The steward takes you aside. "Sanam your alive, you have to get away before he sees you".

"Who sees me?"

"Kain"

"Why would Kain be upset if he saw me?"

I assumed you knew, Kain has placed a bounty on your head he's accusing you of disturbing the peace and poaching.

"Hold on.

My father is okay with the bounty?

For that matter, what is the reward for?"

Is this something that I would know about? Is there a place that bounties are posted or legally notarized?

You haven't heard anything and upon further inquiry discover that Kain is keeping news of the bounty off the bulletin and away from your father.

Hrm.

What do I know about Kain, both him personally and what might motivate him politically? I do realize I spend little time here but a glimmer might help me later on. If I am unable to come up with anything myself, I will ask the steward.

You don't know much about Kain He rose to power after you left. the steward doesn't feel comfortable about disclosing that information to you. "Sanam you must get out of here right now or I will be forced to alert the guards".

OOC I am a little confused here. I thought my father was still in charge of this land. I figured I leave and return every 2-3 months. Wouldn't my father have to sanction or at least approve this bounty?

If my father's rule is in question, I am here to stay and secure his safety. I hold a great love for my father even though I have major problems with his lifestyle choices for me.

Additionally, why would my father's steward be forced to alert the guards?

Once I get a better understanding of my current situation, I will be able to make an in game decision.

Sorry for the confusion. I just need a bit of clarity to continue.

Well your confusion is what I was going for. Your grasp on the situation is similar to that of Sanam's. The stewards behavior seems odd and as you said above it all just doesn't sound right.

"All right, all right.

I will get out of here and figure out what is going on.

Send my best to my father."

I will withdraw from the steward and attempt to find my father, avoiding the steward or Kain if I see either of them.

I assume you go to your fathers hall. Stealth to avoid people please. sorry you waited so long I hadn't slept in like two days.

I sleep more than you :)

Stealth not in a rocky or hilly region: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Ok you aren't noticed buy anyone. You end up in front of the door to your fathers hall.

I would like to listen at the door.

You here nothing behind the door, you do however hear footsteps coming down the hall.

I will go inside the hall. If no one is around I will hide myself and see if the person behind the mystery footsteps enters.

Stealth please

Stealth not in a rocky or hilly region: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

A thin man in a dark purple cloak walks into the hall accompanied by two guards.
One of the guards sees you. Initiative?

Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 15

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 221d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d20 ⇒ 12

One of the guards runs at you swinging his longsword as he does so. attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Am I able to escape?

Can I see the face of the man in the cloak?
