Evil, The Bane of Existance (Interest check and DM search)

Recruitment

So I've noticed a significant lack of evil campaigns. About the only one run is Way of the Wicked, which unfortunately has a lot of restrictions in how to build a character. (I haven't played it though) I mainly bring this up because I have an idea for a Hobgoblin Fell Rider that dreams of the day he can ride a Nightmare.

Now there is always an inherent difficulty in running evil campaigns. Mainly that of, what stops the players from killing each other? They are evil after all. There are other concerns as well, however, as long as the PCs aren't complete douche bags, it really should be able to work out. (If you want more insight into the concerns of running an evil campaign, look here: Evil parties, how they fail and how to fix it)

So here is my proposition. I am looking for a DM, that wants to run an evil campaign, but can work with the PCs to make sure it works out. Maybe the PCs are apart of a Tyrannical empire. It will also require players, that don't play Chaotic stupid (I see someone, kill him!). In certain ways, evil is harder to roleplay than good. It requires plans, trickery and luck. If everyone works together, it should work out just fine.

Now this could be PBP, but preferable to me would be Roll20 with voice chat. PBP is to slow for me, and I lose interest.

So, any takers? (I assume there will be a mass flood of people who want to play PCs)

I like the way you're thinking about how there are limitations to what an evil character should be able to do (especially the chaotic stupid part, which i've seen plenty of). I'd run something like this, but eventually it'd become something that would repeat itself and have no point. There's only so much you can do with evil characters. Why would they bother to help a town in need? Wouldn't they let a man die instead of trying to get him to a doctor?
Sure you'd come up with devious plans to sack cities, and eventually rule the world and such, but what then? There would be no definitive ending.
Don't mean to turn you from your fun, but, in the long term, I don't see why someone would run an evil campaign.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I've played in several campaigns run and completed by evil characters. I actually find that APs are very good for this, as they have a structured plot and Paizo generally at least makes a passing nod to the possibility that PCs may not be motivated out of the goodness of their little black hearts. There's generally some plot to follow regardness of your alignment, and a good DM can always come up with a reason you're doing what you're doing.

All you really need to be sure of is that nobody is Chaotic Stupid, and that your players are smart and mature and OOCly aware of it not being fun if they don't have a reason to work with others or kill everyone they come across.

Evil can look like a lot of things, and evil working together is the scariest thing - and as long as your PCs work together for whatever reason, you're golden, even if it goes off the rails a bit ...

That said, I'd love to play my gullible evil druid again sometime, if anyone wants to GM this. :D
