Gurtis Vortch Errata?

Carrion Crown

Hey folks, I'm slowly starting to lead a party of adventurers into Harrowstone, and just noticed something funny.

The Gurtis Vortch encounter shows an AC that doesn't include the character's 16 Dex, and at the end of the listing notes that he has to make an Acrobatics check to move at his full speed. But... he's got the Blind-Fight feat, which says that you don't lose your Dex bonus to AC, that your opponents in melee don't get a +2 to hit you, and you don't have to roll to move your full speed.

Thoughts? I'm not entirely sure if my players will survive going against him if I play his AC as 16 (+1 dodge, +2 natural, +3 Dex), especially with one of them being a Monk! Or am I missing something?

Gurtis Vortch is headless. Vortch is both blind and deaf, but his ability to use deathwatch helps to lessen the penalties he takes from this condition. These penalties are included as appropriate in his stats, including a –4 penalty to initiative, a –4 penalty on opposed Perception checks, a –4 penalty on Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks, and his reduced speed (if he wants to move at 30 ft., he must make a DC 10 Acrobatics check or fall prone).

Silver Crusade

Being blind results in him losing his Dex bonus to his AC.

I was as confused as you are, jcfiala, when I read all the things Gurtis has even though he has the Blind Fight feat.
I interpret it as follows:
Blind Fight helps you to lessen your impairment occuring because you are blind. Did you ever interact with blind people? They will use their other senses to move around, like their touch sense with the white cane (Vortch wields an Axe, so that's out of the picture) or their hearing sense (which he could use if he still had SOMETHING on his shoulders). But as it stands, he has absolutely NO senses to lessen his impairment except his Deathwatch sense and the ability to interpret the ways his axe hits his enemy - "Hey, that felt like it was a shield, so with my next hit I will hit like THIS..."

If he were played like just a blind skeleton with the Blind Fight feat, he would probably slaugther the party.
