There are some interesting things to watch in this though. I'll agree that Defiance's reputation was something that she should have looked into. What I'm finding interesting though is that for many of the backers, it's not simply her money that was stolen, it's theirs as well. For want of a better term, they are investors in the Torn Armor project and more than a few are taking it personally.
Defiance games is defending themselves, as is to be expected, but they have to defend not just against Alyssa but against the various people who feel they are to blame for the current state of the project, as well as against their own per-existing reputation.
Kickstarter throws a whole new dynamic into these kind of production conflicts. The "investors" don't have an inside view of either company involved, nor do most have any insight into the business end of things in general. All they really know is something has happened and their money disappeared with nothing to show for it. Now someone has to be blamed so they will lash out in all directions and it turns into bad PR for both companies involved.
