[Jehova's Arena, Test, Double] Macho and Blarnaz vs. Jack and Rorsk

Play-by-Post

1 to 50 of 60 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

The crowd erupts into wild applause as they wait for the start of the largest fight thus far.

The champions take their places, Macho and Blarnaz in the north, Jack, Rorsk, and Kitty to the south.

Macho: A09, Blarnaz A11, Jack L09, Kitty L10, Rorsk L11.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Blarnaz comes fresh off a unlucky loss into a second arena. This time, however, he has backup. Or he is the backup (noone's really sure). He silently takes his place to the left of his entry gate, wringing his hands in preparation. It seems impossible that his mask could portray even more pain than before, and yet every time you look at it, that is what seems to be happening.

dice:
Initiative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Initiative = 27

Male Human

Jack steps out into the arena looking around with interest. "Well now, this certainly seems like it should be fun," he says honestly, a smile on his face.

Looking over towards Blarnaz, he frowns a moment, seeming a little dismayed. After a moment though, he shakes his head, as if clearing it. Instead, he turns to the half-orc (if I heard correctly?) beside him, smiles and speaks a few words, giving a lopsided smirk as he finishes.

Not gonna translate it to something weird, since I imagine Rorsk will probably speak Orcish more than Jack. Don't want to lock in the choice :P

Orcish:
"Wish we had more time to get acquainted, but good to meet you. Ready for the fight?"

GM:
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Pretty positive I'm not beating that initiative, at least.
.
Huh, close actually. Initiative = 23

Take 10 Perception 29 (Darkvision 60; Blindsight 40)

A half-grown timber wolf steps out of the darkness of the entrance, studded armor protecting its softer spots. The wolf sniffs the sand, the human standing to its left, then looks across the sands at the opposing two-legs.

Then a half-orc steps out from behind her and up on her right side. Rorsk is tall and athletic, powerful. His clothes are utilitarian and boring, though his weapons and armor seem well-maintained. The armor is a mithral breastplate. And peaking out from his cloak is a quiver with the ends of a few different weapons. His spiked-gauntleted hands hold a well-made longspear, the butt of which he plants in the sand as he sizes up his new teammate as well as their new opponents.

He idly pats the wolf on the shoulder as he responds to Jack, also in orcish.

Orcish (and whispered not to carry beyond Jack):
"Yep. This is Kitty… don't ask. The one on the right has no armor or weapons. I say we focus him down first. Kitty will see if she can frustrate his casting."

Initiative:
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Initiative 16

OHHHHHHHHH YYYYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH !!!!!!

Macho steps out int the arena

looks like its time for some tag team hurtin goin down Macho is very animated with his comments.

initiative:

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

initiative is .....wait for it......waaaaiiiit fooooor iiiiit....

I got a 6!

Take 10 Perception 29 (Darkvision 60; Blindsight 40)

What weapons and armor is Macho wearing? Spell component pouch? Anything else visually that we'd notice about him?

Male Human

Man, we're just rollin' highest to lowest, huh?
.
Also, I suppose I should have mentioned Jack's appearance too. I usually leave it in the alias. Anyone can feel free to check that.
.
Quick summary: Light crossbow, light armor, and a few potions and such. Nothin' else. People should be able to see his battle style pretty soon though :P

Navasi, Human, outlaw Envoy 4 | SP 24/24; HP 28/28 | RP 4/4 | EAC 17; KAC 18 | Fort +1; Ref +6; Will +6 | Init: +2 | Perc: +5; Perc. +7

Maco man is a large muscular man clad in Lamellar (leather) armor his only weapons appear to be his leather gloves studded with small metal spikes. and around his wrists are spiked leather armguards (again small spikes)

::Suprise round::

Bruno wastes no time. He draws a piece of cured leather from his robes and whispers an incantation that makes no sence to untrained ears. The leather disappears in a swirl of arcane energy.

Numbers+GM:

Cast Mage Armor
AC is now 20/16/16

Take 10 Perception 29 (Darkvision 60; Blindsight 40)

Arbiter:
Spellcraft 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Nope

Male Human

Edit: Not sure what Rorsk is up to ^ but I imagine my actions will stay pretty much the same, regardless, so I'll go ahead and post what I got.

::Surprise Round::

GM:
Since I've got a not too bad one, Spellcraft check to see if I can identify Blarnaz's spell?
.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
.
Wow, that was a nice one! XD
.
Regardless, gonna spend my standard to drink my mutagen, and then just 5-foot step forward. The mutagen will give me +4 strength, -2 Intelligence, and a +2 Natural Armor bonus. Feral discovery gives him two claws and a bite, and I'm gonna use the Beastform mutagen bonus to pick up Scent.

Jack watches Blarnaz, then turns back to Rorsk briefly, speaking a few more words in orcish. Halfway through the statement he draws a vial, then later drinks.

To Rorsk, in Orcish:
"Sounds good to me. If you want, I can see about making sure he doesn't get away from her. Anyway though..." He draws a vial from his belt and pops the lid. It immediately begins hissing in contact with the air. "I don't know about you, but I need just a moment to get my game face on." He cracks a smirk, then drinks.

After drinking, he quickly doubles up, teeth clenched as his body contorts. His muscles expand, while shaggy fur begins to grow. His face twists into a lupine muzzle, not unlike that of the wolf beside him. His teeth move into vicious points, and his hands grow rigid and sharp claws.

He pants a few times as the transformation completes, then shakes himself like a dog, shivering, and snaps his jaws towards his opponents, taking a step forward. From the corner of his toothy mouth, he mutters a few more words to Rorsk, sounding a bit more feral.

Orcish, again:
"Now I think I'm ready," he says, with a lopsided grin.

5-foot step up to... K-9 (that was totally not on purpose XD ) and that'll be all for my turn.

Edit: And this is why I said his battle style will probably become apparent pretty fast :P

Take 10 Perception 29 (Darkvision 60; Blindsight 40)

Sorry, no, that was just Rorsk tanking a Spellcraft attempt to ID that spell being cast by Blarnaz.

:: Surprise Round ::

The half-orc grins in response to his new teammate's tactics and comment, though his dark eyes never leave their opponents. He puts makes a fist-clenching gesture with his off-hand and mutters a soft whisper before touching the same hand to Kitty's armored back.

Then he points at Blarnaz and gives a quick series of whistles. Kitty reacts instantly, bursting towards Blarnaz like an arrow from a bow, growling as she tries to close her teeth around his leg.

Arbiter:
Rorsk casts Silence on Kitty's armor (DC 16 spell craft to ID the Silence spell)
Then uses his swift action to command her to attack Blarnaz, his +11 mod to Handle Animal when dealing with Kitty means he doesn't need to roll the check.

Kitty charges Blarnaz, ending in B.11

Kitty AC 19; CMD 16

rolls:
Bite 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13
----> Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
----> Trip (if successful bite) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Rorsk does magic-looking stuff, then seems to give Kitty a command.
Kitty charges Blarnaz (ending in B.11).
Attack 13; Damage 7; Trip 19 if the attack was successful

And that's my surprise round.

Take 10 Perception 29 (Darkvision 60; Blindsight 40)

Oh yah...

.. and as Kitty gets within about 20 ft of both opponents, all sounds in the arena seem to cease completely.

Blarnaz cocks his head to the side, as if confirming that he's suddenly deaf. Apparently satisfied, his eye, or rather the empty sockets in the shrine to pain that is his mask, lock with the recently transformed wolf-like monstrosity. Magic descends upon Jack.

DC 18 will save, please

Arbiter:

Use Slumber Hex on jack

Blarnaz doesn't wait to see if his magic takes hold before stepping beside Macho man.

5' step to A-10

Male Human

You can target me from that far away? Damn.

GM:
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Failure on the Will Save. Do I have any idea what it did? And I suppose that means it's my turn now, yes?

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Whoa, good catch. I have the hardest time keeping track of ranges in this format. I have everything else down except that my enemies are over there.
Will re-post actions.
Edit: thanks for keeping me honest. I'm not trying to cheat here so if something looks wonky feel free to call me on it. I'll gladly correct any errors.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Blarnaz cocks his head to the side as the puppy gnaws on his new force-armor. Seemingly satisfied that he is deaf, he takes a step back to stand side-by-side with Macho man (A-10). He pulls back a fist and it is instantly covered in a fibrous, hairy substance. Bruno strikes out at the rabid canine, the newly formed fist of hair carrying the assault forward toward his target.

Macho is human

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Blarnaz likes to think he's an Orc, but the other Doctors say he's human, yes. :P
I'm going to take this doctor thing and run with it. It's now Dr. Blarnaz to youall!

Male Human

Man what is this ratio, like 2.5 Humans, 1.5 Orcs, 1.5 Wolves, and...??? Sheesh.

Male Human

So, Dr. Blarnaz is finished with his turn I guess?

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Im sorry, yes. The Dr. is finished.

Male Human

I sorta figured, it was a combination of that and the attacks, so I wasn't sure if everything was done.
.
::Round 1::

Jack mutters a few words to Rorsk, quietly so as not to be overheard, after Kitty moves in for the attack.

To Rorsk, in Orcish:
"She know how to flank? I can make some nice holes in people when I get the opportunity," he says, with a chuckle.

Without waiting for any reply, he runs forward on all fours, sliding to a halt behind Macho and making a bite at the back of his neck.

GM:
Charge to C9, and using Power Attack. Fingers crossed for some damage for our side.
.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Bite Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

Wow... Rolling a 1 on both attack and damage... kickass. Welp, I guess that'll be my turn. Edit: Oh, and he's at C9. Edit 2: And heck, I rolled a 1 on spellcraft against Blarnaz earlier too >_> Jack sure is looking lucky in his first match.

He seems to lose traction on his movements though, and the bite is unwieldy. He flails a bit for balance, missing on the attack, but stabilizes himself after a second.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Arbiter:

That Spellcraft check above was to identify the spell Rorsk cast. Should have said that.

Take 10 Perception 29 (Darkvision 60; Blindsight 40)

:: Round 1 ::

Whatever response Rorsk had for his lycan-like arena partner is lost as the wolf-man charges Macho (and ends with a puppy-sliding-around-the-corner-on-slick-kitchen-floor-tiles-esque finale). Kitty does, indeed, prove aware of the benefits of superior positioning as she takes a quick step into a Macho-flanking position opposite Jack (She is naturally a pack hunter, after all) before taking another bite at Blarnaz.

Rorsk, meanwhile, hustles across the field, longspear in-hand, closing on the combat quickly.

All five combatants find themselves struggling in an ominous sound-void... the usual sounds of grunts, crowd roars, cries of pain, metal clashing on metal, or arcane mutterings are replaced by an oppressive nothing in everyone's ears.

---

Arbiter:
Rorsk: Swift to activate Judgement of Purity (+2 to saves)
double moves to C.10 (which activates Shake It Off w/ Jack for an additional +1 to saves)
Mwk Longspear threatens Blarnaz

Kitty: 5' step to A.11; Bite Blarnaz

----> Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
----> Trip (if successful bite) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Rorsk double moves to C.10. Kitty 5' steps to A.11 and attempts to bite Blarnaz.
Kitty Bite: Attack 18; Damage 4; Trip (if successful bite) 16

Macho Man is up.. OOOOOOOOHHHH YAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!.

Take 10 Perception 29 (Darkvision 60; Blindsight 40)

Geez, Jack, we're getting some exceedingly mediocre-to-crappy dice rolls! This could be painful.

Male Human

Jack growls (silently) as Macho grabs hold of him, and lashes out at him in a mess of fangs and claws.

GM:
No power attack this time, since I'm flanking and grappled, but full attacking. Already included the grappled penalty. Er, actually, the grappled penalty is offset by the flanking. Cool.
.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Bite Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Bite Sneak Attack: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1) = 10
.
Claw Attack 1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Claw Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Claw Sneak Attack: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3) = 12
.
Claw Attack 2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Claw Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Claw Sneak Attack: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2) = 5
.
Oi, fingers crossed...

Alright, a bit more promising!
.
Attacks: 22/19/15
Damages: 22/23/13
.
The penalty for grappled and bonus for flanking is already factored in. And don't forget, you have a -4 to Dex on your AC, unless you've got something specific to negate it.
.
I can let you match up which attacks hit and the damages they did. They're in order, so if the 22 and 19 hit, you've got 45 damage, and if the 15 does that makes 58. Hopefully at least one of those hit 'cuz I think it's about time we could use some damage for our team :P
.
Oh, and that'll be all for Jack's turn, unless Macho somehow just got dropped, in which case Jack would take a 5-foot step over to B8. But, I'm assuming probably not, so he'll be sticking to C9 otherwise.

Navasi, Human, outlaw Envoy 4 | SP 24/24; HP 28/28 | RP 4/4 | EAC 17; KAC 18 | Fort +1; Ref +6; Will +6 | Init: +2 | Perc: +5; Perc. +7

yes all three hit (the last attack is right on) also I might need some clarification on this: I believe that the dex penalties only apply to you when you are being attacked by someone not involved in the grapple. (we maintain our standard AC stuff with respect to each other).

And man that is lot of damage. but as Kyrin put it "what is that guy, A juggernaught?"

will wait on my turn to post actions

What flanking bonus?

Male Human

Kitty's snappin' at your heels :P
.
And maybe. I only saw the -2 penalty to all attacks except those made to escape a grapple, and the -4 Dex penalty. I didn't see anything about it only applying to creatures not in the grapple, but I admit to not being terribly knowledgeable about grappling in general.
.
And yeah. Freakin' juggernaut XP
.
Edit: Though, I suppose if we maintained our standard Attack/AC in regards to each other, it would pretty much balance out to even?

Take 10 Perception 29 (Darkvision 60; Blindsight 40)

:: Round 2 ::

The longspear hits the sand as the wolf takes a following step after the retreating curse-thrower.

Rorsk takes advantage of the sudden flanking position, drawing a falchion from over his shoulder and bringing it down in one smooth but powerful strike on Macho before taking an advancing step towards Blarnaz.

The wolf bites once again at Blarnaz.

------

Arbiter:
Rorsk: Free to drop Longspear
Move to draw falchion
Swift to activate Bane: Human on falchion
Ready an attack to strike Macho once Kitty is in flanking (which will effectively not change anything in initiative given they share initiative and that'll be Kitty's first action). Attack modified by Power Attack, Bane, and Flank.

Rorsk status: no change
Kitty status: Silence (rd 2 of 5)

Kitty bite 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
---> Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
---> Trip 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Rorsk drops Longspear, draws falchion, and readies...
Kitty 5' steps to A.10, which triggers...
Rorsk strikes at Macho with the falchion: Attack 25, Damage 22
Rorsk 5' step to B.9
Kitty finishes her turn by biting at Blarnaz: Attack 12, Damage 6, Trip (if bite is successful) 9

Macho is up

Male Human

This brings up an interesting question. So, you readied an action on your turn prompted by Kitty's.
.
I know this is a good mechanical tactic for pet classes when flanking, but as we already have pets acting on their owner's initiative, do we need to specify things like that or have them basically take actions however works best? (In other words, you have both of them on your turn, and can take actions appropriately.)
.
Just kinda curious. I'll probably be bringing a Summoner in eventually too, where it might come into play.
.
This also gets important for full attacks later on (having the player and pet 5-foot step to flanking position, then attacking fully wouldn't be possible on readied actions, for example).
.
Edit: Also... did Macho get rocked after that? Things might just be lookin' up for the Beast Team now :P

Take 10 Perception 29 (Darkvision 60; Blindsight 40)

Preach it, brother! (I completely agree with you – with a very few, specific exceptions)

So, Blarnaz is up?

Which means Jack is up, I guess.

Anyone in the area takes damage at the end of the swarms's turn. I thought it was beginning of your turn. My bad.
