Ideal Party

What would the ideal party make up be for the this AP?

wow no replies, I would have liked to read this too... um had one guy on the thrid book of the AP tell me an elf would be usefull other than that?

Grand Lodge

Any party is the ideal party. All you need are 4+ characters.

That being said, being an elf is not necessary or required. The GM needs to read the whole book to decide how to handle certain situations.

Suggestions of full parties of Lantern Bearers (which are elves) may work, but what is your reasoning for going to the Golden Goblin?

Right now our group is a Half-Orc Cleric of Gorum/Urban Barbarian, a Human Cleric of Cayden Cailean, a Dwarven Barbarian, a Human Rogue (although he just died, but we plan on getting him back on his feet), a Human Monk/Summoner, and a Human Sorcerer.

I don't know if there is an ideal party. Speaking as a player who is only in the third book right now.

any characters do better than any others? I would think in an anti-drow campaign dwarves do better for the poison resistance, and casters have a bit more trouble because of SR... and I would think any build featuring say sleep or charm would also have bigger problems (so witch sleep hex = bad) so any other tips?

If I run this I am thinking about getting rid of the whole Gold Goblin part and have the characters start at 3rd level as an all elf member of a strike team attached to the elven mercenaries (I dint remember the name) and have them start off going after the main villain as their primary goal.

I can tell you this - our party seems ideally suited to run it in the relatively early going.

Human Arcane Duelist
Elven Void Mage & Spellbinder
Half-Elven Summoner
Half-Elven Master Summoner

The Void Mage seems almost ideally made for this capaign from a RP standpoint and the group has enough of an elven connection to want to be vested in the story. They're all casters to one degree or another, but without any official frontliners apart from the Summoner's Ediolon and the Master Summoner's summoned monsters though both the Arcane Duelist and the Summoner are solid melee combatants. Lots of Buffs, lots of versatility and plenty of story synergy to boot.

That's not a bad idea - though I'll say you could really introduce them basically in place of the elven scout (forgot his name too) and have them be witnesses to the Tsunami... no reason why they can't investigate the island at the direction of or under the authority of the elves.

When thinking about the AP as a whole, it just seems more appropriate. I like the first adventure, but as pointed out in other threads it seems out of place. I think it will be fun to have the players sent out to hunt Azrinae, but they don't really know what she is. The "surprise" will still be in place, as well as the potential for the battle to make its way up the arch.

I like your idea about having the PCs replace Kwava. I was going to keep him in and make him a team leader.

Half-Elf Rogue - This scoundrel has lived in Riddleport all his life. Starts out trying to strike it rich, but discovers an opportunity to meet his father's people and become a big damn hero on the way.

Forlorn Elf Cyphermage - A wizard who grew up in Riddleport. Seeks funding to find a connection between the Cyphergate and the stars "What if the ciphers are constellations from other angles!?"

Kyonin Elf Ranger - Comes to Riddleport to find long lost cousins that dropped from the family line.

Tiefling Inquisitor of Cayden Caillean - A drunk, an outcast and the best friend of the half-elf, joins him originally to get rich quick but eventually discovers that his own fiendish ancestors may be responsible for the terrible things that are afoot.

If you aren't going the "all-elf" party this makes a nice substitute.
