Rise of the Runelords

Liberty's Edge

Hello,

Just reading through to brush up for my group's game next Saturday. In the event that Orik is captured instead of killed, it mentions that he has no knowledge of the second level of Thistletop. On page 60 of the Anniversary Edition in area E3, it says that Nualia and her remaining allies have explored the chambers and further explains that Tsuto was hunting for traps.

Would it be safe to say that while Orik may not know the exact layout of the lower level (to the point of drawing a map), he would be aware of the trap in area E3 and could warn the PCs?

(Took a very brief re-read of the section) I would say it's safe to assume either case is perfectly plausible. He could have overheard about the trap, or any information about it may be deliberately withheld from him since he's just hired help. Any level of detail is possible. My view is that he knows as little as possible, since he's a mercenary. At minimum, he'd probably know that the exploration party lost one guy. It's a toss-up as to whether he'd know it was to the trap.

However, it's a very amusing trap, so I recommend having Orik know nothing about it, to increase the chances it gets triggered. Edit: it's likely that the polished floor is a dead giveaway, anyway, if your players are like mine.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, I figured my players would avoid the polished floor like the plague even with Orik not telling them. I might play it as though Orik doesn't know, just to see if any one of them fumble the attempt to jump over the square. *snicker*
