They don't make Iron Golems like they used to...

Miniatures

Liberty's Edge

I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered a large number of broken minis in the Shattered Star set?

I had very good luck with Heroes & Monsters and Rise of the Runelords, getting only one broken mini in each series (with 3 to 4 cases of each).

With 2 cases of Shattered Star, I wound up with 15 broken figs:

2x busted Iron Golems, one missing an arm, one missing his head...
Hill Giant ripped off it's base...
Dullahan missing an arm...
2x Night Hags missing arms...
Shriezyk with busted legs...
Mite On Spider with a busted spider leg...
Koriah Azmeren missing an arm...
Medium Fire Elemental snapped in half...
Lem, Halfling Bard snapped off his base...
4x Portioques snapped off their bases.

I'm waiting for my next game day (Friday) to open my 2 Huge Blue Dragons (they shipped a bit later than the cases), but I hear an ominous sound of tiny pieces rattling inside the package, so I think something may be broken off there as well.

I'm not sure if they've gone with different plastics, but the figures seem much more fragile than the previous sets.

Also, does anyone have any idea how long it generally takes WizKids to add a new set to their replacement product page?

It's up now, except the blue dragon

The only broken mini I've had so far has been a Mite that broke off his base and a Runelord Sorshen who has a bent weapon (Thankfuly a few tricks learned from DDMs have taught me how to fix bent plastic ;P )

I have only bought...3 boosters though? I can see how with a case or even a brick youd end up with alot of breakings. I would suspect a different kind of glue or a different type of plastic on thinner peices.

Glue being from the breakages from the points of contact (Bases, Arms, etc) that have been largely reported. They did get rid of the footpads though in favor of pegs that just fit into a base...I'm sure Paizo is talking to Wizkids about this, Paizo is taking some blaim and WizKids is probably sick of replacing products. :P

For what it's worth, I prefer the pegs to the footpads, they were an eyesore. I'd rather do some minor repairs.

Another question...

I was able to use WizKids site to create 3 separate packages for return (you're limited to 5 figures per "package"), but I can't find anywhere on the site where it gives an address to ship them to.

I simply have finalized Package #s, with no ship to address, and no obvious contact e-mail.

Anyone know where to find this information?

I would rather have the pegs and not have to do any repairs on new minis. ;-)

There were breaks in heroes and monsters too, and on the footpads no less ><

Hopefully we can get to having no breaks and no ugly foot things.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 4

The only 'broken' mini in my case was 1 peg that came out of the base. Now Natalya Vancaskerkin can do a high kick if she wants.

Yep, that is what I said. Pegs and no breaks. I think we are agreeing with each other.

Yep, we are. I wasn't arguing, just enthusiastic about the same thing as you and the more feedback we give the better. :)

Paizo and Wizkids have been really good about feedback/adjusting.

This is an obstacle I'm sure they will be able to work with.

my Seelah fig lost her shield arm and i have one headless zombie

I'm not even sure how the zombie died, they were in solo packs and that part of the mini is pretty solid O.o

Liberty's Edge

Both of my Gargantuan Blue Dragons came with busted off horns. Since they don't list this premium fig on the WizKids replacement form, I'd appreciate it if anyone has any info on how to get replacements for them.

Also, if anyone has a contact e-mail or phone number for WizKids, I'd appreciate that as well.

Thanks!

I didn't have a problem with my dragon or iron golems, but the spider type things for sure. Both my mites on spiders had missing pieces. The large clockwork golem is amazing but damn shame it falls of its base so much. Also, the other spider critter had missing limbs. While I love the ambitious sculpts it's pretty awful to have so many breakages. I never had this problem with D&D miniatures, now given these are more detailed sculpts but I'm starting to wonder if they can't make the plastic mix softer on these...

To be honest, this is an ongoing issue with the PF miniatures it seems, by the third set are we seeing a reduction in breakages? If not, why isn't this happening?

Liberty's Edge

To Aarontendo...

To be honest, I haven't seen a pattern of breakages in previous sets.

I know a lot of the sculpts are very detailed and have some very thin sections in this set. I think there's a sweet spot between the complexity of the sculpt and the durability of the fig, and I think that this particular set missed it by a bit.

Thought I was hearing similar reports with the previous sets. This was my first time having the problem but I tell ya makes me rethink spending hundreds of dollars on these again :/

I had very little trouble with the early sets. No breaks in heroes and monsters, likely due to solo packaging.

2 Breaks in runelords, a warchanter and I forgot the other one, but both only took a tiny dab of superglue so I was not so worried about it.

This set I had 3 breaks, a spiderxyz or whatever that one is named, a Xulgath that had a foot pop off and the blue dragons right foot.

The Spider only had a broken mandible so I didn't bother fixing it because you wouldn't notice it unless you were looking for it.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong, same with my spiders they'll be fine without a leg. What worries me is how durable these will be in my miniatures box. We tend to just put em in zip locks with like minded miniatures in a bin.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ahh, that may be the difference in mindset for me, I use bookshelves, so they're pretty stationary when not in use. That's a large difference.

I'd prefer softer plastic for that as well.

I worry too about mobility since we provide the miniatures and travel once a week to gaming. Right now I have them placed in craft/fishing tackle containers. The previous sets have done fine with the one exception of Seelah's shield arm popping off (easy fix with glue and has been fine since). The spiders have me worried, but I went ahead and put them in the containers and will monitor them closely. We're careful with how we handle the containers, but we do group more than one in a bin.

Yeah that's the same situation I'm in, giant gray tackle-box of doom! Well, I assume it is, maybe it's a re-purposed, gutted, plastic toolbox.

The sad part is I'm moving overseas someday probably, for like, a long time haha....so I'd like to take them at some point. Definitely in my carry-on, and even then sorta dicey I think.

Now that I think of it, I think others were right mostly from those hill giants slamming around. They weren't tied down like the elementals. I almost had to ask but is there any chance of packagint them like D&D miniatures? They were in smaller cases, with their own tiny plastic baggies. They didn't use the clamshells but it seems if the boxes are sorta tight enough not enough room for them to bounce around too much.

These would work great on a bookshelf though Lorian, no doubt there. I wish I had the room for it ya lucky foo.

I'm sorry that you had such a foul experience in your openings, but I didn't have this problem at all (I will note that your sample size is two cases while mine is only six booster packs). Out of all of my figures I had one Gray Maiden whose pegs came off when I (ever so gracefully) pulled her out of her packaging. So I can't even blame WizKids for her; it was basically my bad.
