Steven Helt wrote:Actually, Jon. It's so much likethat that as a general rule, we should avoid design musings during the contest. You night give someone a decent idea or stumble on an authentic one, which now makes it look like you or someone else riffed off a random post.It might also be construed as "adding to your submission." Granted you are talking about monsters BEFORE the monster round, but some might consider that you are posting such things too show off more design chops, and possibly garner more votes. Best just not to do it.
That was not my intent, I'm really just wondering if any of you have found a good technique for turning off the faucet. Certainly work and church help but when my my mind isn't engaged in something..... Grrrrrr.

I'm in. Never tried PBP but I am involved in a Skype Kingmaker campaign.

My advice for the random design ideas that bubble into your head:
1. Write them down off site
2. Talk to your gaming friends about themThat way, it stays away from the Paizo boards, but it doesn't drive you nuts bouncing around in your head by themselves.
Yeah, that might help. I'll put my laptop next to the bed and jot them down. I'll go over it with the crew on Friday night. Thanks.
The worst part is when I'm first trying to get to sleep. In any case, I guess it won't last forever. My brain hasn't been this active since college. At first, I kinda liked it but now it isn't much fun.

Hmmm. What's the schedule of a PbP like these days? It's been years since I've been in one - but if it sounds feasible, I'd really enjoy it :)
The pace is slow (I'm currently running one that I've put on temporary hiatus to focus my efforts on the contest) but I'm playing in a couple run by Aubrey the Malformed on the boards here that are absolutely fantastic. One of them is a Rise of the Runelords campaign that began when the AP was first released (when Paizo was still doing 3.5 and hadn't invented PF yet). We're still playing it, and we're all level 10 right now. So... about 2 levels a year, give or take.

Seriously, NC is like Redmond East. Paizocon East, midwinter, Charlotte--this is a good idea whose time has come.

So.... I woke up a few minutes ago, misread the clock and started to get ready for work. My work begins in 4.5 hours. Awesome. The good news is that I thought of an interesting way to do the PBP if possible. I really don't know much about PBP.
Is it possible to have 36 (32 + 4 alt) different threads that can only be seen by the individual players? Can the threads be combined and separated as needed? If so, then I may have a fun scenario. I might need someone to help with combat. I also need to go over the archetypes a few more times.
And now.... I'll try to get back to sleep.... yeah right.

Sam, it was a good idea to update your profile. I'm not nearly as interesting as you.
Looking at the ideas that have come out of this contest, I'm guessing every single person who's made the Top 32 is incredibly interesting, the sort of person I'd want to have a (root) beer with.
Which reminds me, I'd be up for a PbP, if a once-a-day post rate isn't too slow.

Hi guys,
Just thought I'd pop in to say congratulations to you all!
I like what you've done with the place. Ostentatious. Not like in my day. (Is that Hodge Podge? Who let him back in?)
I'm a bit late to the party, but I'm working on reviewing all your work to date. I like what I've seen so far. You're some talented people.
Good luck in the voting!

The only site I can think of that specializes in short Golarion fiction is pathfinderchronicler.net, but I don't think that site gets any traffic these days. Your best bet for finding readership would be to submit your short story to Wayfinder. Beyond that, there's not really much of a market for Golarion fiction.

And, on a completely different note...
I'm going to spend the next two days analyzing and poking holes in all of your archetypes. I don't think I'll have time to post very many of my critiques, so don't take my silence to mean I'm not ruthlessly tearing your archetype apart and finding reasons not to vote for it.
Have a nice, stress-free weekend. :P
EDIT: If, after tearing apart all the archetypes, there are two I find to be equally good, the one whose name is closest to the start of the alphabet shall be assigned to the San Fransisco 49ers, while the other is assigned to the Baltimore Ravens. The archetype whose team wins Super Bowl XLVII wins the tie-breaker.

In personal gaming news, my daughter ran her first game for us last night. She ran a session of the Supernatural RPG, and we had a great time. She'd been wanting to run a game for years, and finally found a game she wanted to play in and came up with a story of her own that she wanted to share with us. I was so proud. I think the first time your child runs a game for you is like becoming a parent all over again.

What I like about this contest is that, sure I want to win, but I don't feel competitive about it. I feel more of a chummy camaraderie with my fellow contestants than I do a rivalry. And I think that's nice.
Tomorrow my plans are to play Pathfinder rather than to watch the Super Bowl. After years of GMing, there's finally a regular game I get to play in.

I love when I get to play with kids. My friend's son plays now and when I told him about the monster round for the contest, he started coming up with some names. He has some really good, creative ideas.
I also have been working with an inner-city church in Oklahoma City and I taught some of the boys how to play DnD 3.5 and Pathfinder. It was awesome to seen their excitement when they successfully completed quests and defeated monsters.

Clay Blankenship RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32 aka Wolfwaker |

Doh! I just thought of a change I should have made to my archetype.
It's really fun to see your kids enjoy one of your hobbies. My 2 boys like to run sessions, so much that I haven't gotten many of my prepared ones to the table yet. The 7 year old's are pretty random but entertaining. (We had to rescue a giant oyster's magic pearl from a giant shark after being helped by and then turned on by water goblins.) The 10-year old has started a very interesting one about a village populated by unusual races (tengu, pixie, centaur, etc.) where the people have been disappearing, carried off by something from the forest.
Happy Superb Owl Day!

While we wait, where would be a good place to post short Golarion fiction? Is that permitted?
EDIT: Not about our archetypes; I mean general Pathfinder fiction.
I think fanfiction.net has a 'dungeons & dragons' category for fiction, or you could always post it as a miscellaneous book or game story over there.
You need to register with fanfiction.net before you can post stories there though. In theory, I suppose you could always start your own Golarion fiction community to collect Golarion fiction on fanfiction.net.
Other than that outlets I know of are, as Mr. Morton said Pathfinder Chronicler, submitting to Wayfinder, or just sticking something on a random thread here on the boards. Threads here on the boards tend to sink pretty quickly and disappear from site without regular posts, though...

I would think once the public voting is over at 2pm Pacific we can go into our threads and comment. We'll have 24 hours till we know who made it through to the next round. Then the pressure to go over your monsters again with a fine toothed comb will fall like Torag's Hammer!

The suspense is killing my nerves. If I make it to the next round, I'll have to go to the drug store to stock up on Pepto-Bismol. Also, some of that bitter stuff to keep me from biting my fingernails. And shampoo. I'm low on shampoo.
While you are there, pick up me up some Cheetos and a couple of Mountain Dews.

I do hope we can discuss archetypes as soon as voting closes, because I'd love to not only say a few words in my thread but also to commend my fellow competitors on a job well done. Many of the submitted entries excite me and I want to say nice things about them!
