Please don't forget Tian Xia! We are half way through this season and still nothing from Tian Xia. Please don't follow the TSR, WotC model of introducing the Asian Analog and promptly forgetting about it. IMO the best scenarios of season 3 were the ones set in Tian Xia that paid homage to great Asian films!

More please please, pretty please!

Check out 4-21: Way of the Kirin. It looks like PFS is going back to Tian Xia. :)

Seasons have a Theme, This season is Varisia, last year was Tian Xia.

That said...

Pathfinder Society Scenario #4–16: The Fabric of Reality - is set in the Hao Jin Tapestry
Pathfinder Society Scenario #4–21: Way of the Kirin - is set in Tian Xia (Well it looks like it at least)

2/5

Way of the Kirin does sound promising!!!!!! w00000t!!! :)

Dark Archive 4/5

While we do have a Varisia theme this year, I like Pathfinder Society for its "Go anywhere" feel. I would be disappointed with a season that stayed in only one region, even if it was a remarkably diverse one like Varisia. Thankfully, PFS does not seem to be doing that at the moment.

...Am I the only one who was apathetic by the mandatory oriental expedition? :)

Season 3 was Tian Xia overload, mostly without any Tian Xia flavor (most of the scenarios could have been anywhere).

I would be happy to see limited Tian Xia in the future, no more than any other country. There's a lot of unexplored countries in Golarion, I'd like to see something different. Being in (classic) Varisia is a nice change.

To be fair though, I have been playing Season 4 pretty heavily recently and am feeling the "varisia overload" starting to creep up.

Dark Archive 3/5

If there weren't any scenarios in Varisia for a season or two, I would be very happy. There's just too much Varisia in PFS, and Pathfinder in general, for my liking.

I felt the exact opposite way. As soon as I recognized the movie reference, I was completely taken out of the moment. I would far rather see scenarios truly unique to Tian Xia -- not a real world equivalent or lifted movie plot.

Dark Archive 4/5

The Haunting of Hinojai remains my favourite Tian Xia scenario. It had just a few hints of it, which is just enough to make it authentic.

This is not a Criticism, but I am not sure if that is really true for this season compared to last season at least. Below you can see just how Varisia heavy Season 4 is. That said, this is by far my favorite season.

Season 3 (26 scenarios)

Irrisen - 1 Scenario
Absalom - 7 Scenario
Katapesh - 1 Scenario
Taldor - 2 Scenario
Tian Xia - 5 Scenario
Demiplane (Hao Jin Tapestry) - 7 Scenario
Ustalav - 1 Scenario
Isger - 1 Scenario
Varisia - 1 Scenario

Season 4 (26 scenarios)

Varisia - 20 Scenario
Absalom - 2 Scenario
Demiplane (Hao Jin Tapestry) - 1 Scenario
Unknown - 1 Scenario (Pathfinder Society Scenario #4–18: The Veteran's Vault)
Tian Xia - 1 Scenario
Hold of Belkzen - 1 Scenario

Dark Archive 4/5

Well Dragnmoon, I hadn't taken a tally like you. I suppose Varisia is rich enough that I haven't noticed yet. I would like more tombs though. :)

Only 6 for Tian Xia!!! Thats a big time Sad Face! That's a true shame that some of you didn't care for the homage scenarios to Asian cinema but I agree with many of you that I would love some more that are immersive into Tian Xia as a unique entity. I want to be able to explore the various countries, cities and cultures. For me, Pathfinder is at its best when it allows us to feel immersed in a strange land. Here's to hoping for more! :-)

Liberty's Edge 4/5 5/5

There's at least one Hao Jin Tapestry scenario that has a very strong Tian Xia feel about it; probably more.

Also 'The Ruby Phoenix Tournament' module is set in Tian Xia.

Shadow Lodge 4/5 **** Venture-Captain, Michigan—Mt. Pleasant

Just remember Lass, the Pathfinder Society is was founded and based in the Inner Sea Region. It is a really long way to Tian Xia (heck half of a campaign is about reaching it!) Yes there are some amazing places in Tian Xia, but the in-game PFS has more than enough to explore in its corner of the world without heading to the other side of the globe.

Add some Asian themed Hao Jin Tapestry ones and you have more then six.

In comparision to other places with cool themes that's above average.

Truthfully, I'd love to see some more scenarios in Osirion. It has 3 scenarios, one retired, one that has a heavily negative reputation and little to do with 'Egyptian stuff'.

And I wouldn't mind a little less Varisia.

I used Osirian as an area with some obvious movie/pulp appeal much like the far east has martial arts/samurai/manga mojo. The fact that Osirian is not appealing, at least to you kinda makes my point. Egyptian/Mummy/Lost Arc goodness seems like just one of those areas for PFS to exploit, but they haven't.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

Im with everyone on this post. Osirion, Geb, Tian Xia, bring it on. I find that a real pleasure of GMing PFS comes when I get a scenario I can really dig into a try to create an immersive world out of. So for me the more exotic the better.

I think Ive also hit my overload of Varisia point but am still really enjoying season 4. Hell its the best one yet!

Sovereign Court 4/5

Varisia as a region might appeal to those who have been running or playing Rise of the Runelord. I admit the region is full of flavor and so many details many GMs can use that to create a colorful world.

The downside comes when players/GMs like me with little time on their schedule have no choice but to run episodic PFS scenarios instead of committing to long adventure paths. I, for one, know only a little about Varisia, mostly what's been printed on Inner Sea World Guide. The magic of Sandpoint and the hilarious goblin tribes and all that somehow elude me.

What actually surprises me is that according to my knowledge there isn't a Varisia specific Pathfinder Chronicles or Companion book.

Let's see if I manage to get this posted before somebody with fleeter fingers goes all ninja with the knowledge.

The books on Varisia that I have (there may be more), are: City of Strangers, Guide to Korvosa, Magnimar: City of Monuments, and Varisia: Birthplace of Legends. That's not counting all the Varisia material in the various adventure paths that are set in whole or in part there, or the material at the back of the comics.

I'd love to see more Tian Xia scenarios.
Here's some stuff I wanna do in Tian Xia:

-Outwitting/escaping the Hong Kong style triad gangs or yakuza in the slums and docklands of Goka City.
-Restoring the ancient pride of the Tengu in a mountaintop city of Kwan Lai.
-Assassination of a powerful Black Daimyo Hobgoblin Samurai warlord through a honorable duel to the death.
-Taking magic opium to go on a metaphysical extraplanar quest with a sect of Samsaran priestesses.
-Either hunting down, or defending an ancient forest spirit deep within the Forest of the Kami.
-Locating and questioning Golarion's most powerful oracle, a mysterious hermit who lives at the peak of the Wall of Heaven mountain range. All the Everest survival stories rolled into one adventure!
-Negotiate through a war between the traditionalist samurai and the modernist black powder weapon users.
-Get thrown into an underground dungeon that resembles an immense puppet theatre run by homicidal, psychopathic wayangs.
-Find all the dragonballs and bring Baron Jacquo back.

I actually knew about City of Strangers and Guide to Korvosa. City specific books are nice, but don't encompass Varisia as a whole.

Varisia: Birthplace of Legends is actually a new thing for me (I don't check up on the blog regularly). Thanks!

I'm not saying this just to be contradictory, but please forget Tian Xia!

The majority of Pathfinder material is written for a western setting. It's frustrating when a Samurai or Ninja shows up in medieval Europe. It's also frustrating when, after spending months leveling up a druid or paladin, they suddenly wander into medieval Japan. I'm not opposed to Eastern themed games. (I've played AD&D 1e Oriental Adventures, D&D 3e Oriental Adventures, Legend of the Five Rings RPG, and tried out a few others.) I just don't want to drag my western characters willy-nilly into eastern settings.

Now, if there was an entire path of adventures in Tian Xia, I'd be happy to make an appropriate character and play them.

I am feeling the "Varisia Overload." Not only the recent scenarios, but a lot of the recent modules are taking place there. It's getting to be where I can say "We're in Varisia, right? *sigh* Alright..."

Plus, the Mana Wastes are hilarious.

Dark Archive 4/5

The Mana wastes are a pain you basically have to write up a new character sheet for the only scenario there. The actual scenario is quite fun though but the initial book keeping means that its best to be warned in advance so you can be ready for it

We're not going to abandon Tian Xia. Golarion's a huge place, and we have a tough balance to strike between exploring new locations, not abandoning established ones, and telling the stories the campaign needs regardless of where those stories take place.

I think folks are going to be very excited when they see some of the stuff in store of the campaign next year, both in terms of metaplot developments as well as the variety of places the campaign is going to be able to go. More on that later, though.

To each their own. I thought it was rather hilarious, and I played a class that was pretty affected by it (archer bard who has arcane strike and uses his buffs to do decent damage).

Tian Xia was kind of obnoxious (in my opinion), and I'm kind of glad the push is mostly over. That being said, that's just my opinion, and I think pretty much most of the Scenario's set there could have been set anywhere without really altering the story. It is interesting to see how few scenarios are set in a few locations though, (Ustalav = 2, Worldwound, Galt, Nex, and Geb all = 1).

Can someone tell me which two are set in Galt?

One reason for hating scenarios in Tien Xia:

The PFS and Osprey tend to be cheap-asses; they NEVER spring for a teleport. It takes multiple months to get there, and then the same to get back to Absalom. I have to age my character almost a year every time he adventures there!

KGunnerQ Those sound very interesting! Are you planning to write any of them up and submit them? I have always loved the Oriental setting, especially Medieval Japan type campaigns. I have managed to miss all of the Tian Xia scenarios in season 3. (Sad Frown) I ran an Oriental Adventures campaign many years ago until it grew so large (13 people), I had to move to another state to escape all those the crazed Samurai and Shugenja! Lands of the Linnorm Kings
Lastwall
Mendev
Nidal

And yet we have had 25 in Varisia despite the fact that Varisia has already had three AP's and numerous books dedicated to it.

Less Varisia, more other places please.

I know there's at least a PFS-sanctioned module in the Land of the Linnorm Kings...but yeah, Varisia needs to pipe down for a little to allow more varied scenarios.

Spoilers: the module in question:
Curse of the Riven Sky.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

Perhaps the ratio of season story arc to stand alone scenarios could be rejiggered a bit to allow more stand-alone. Despite any position I have, I've no real knowledge of what's to come. I can only get meta:

Assuming the same pattern is followed, next season will likely consist of 27 scenarios (an interactive, a special, this year's special reprinted, and 24 new scenarios). A couple of those scenarios and the special will probably be tied to season 6's story arc. The interactive will likely be firmly tied to season 5.

So, of the 22 regular scenarios left for season 5, how many do folks feel should be tied to the season 5 story arc? Is 15 too much? Too few?

Personally, I'd love to see as many as possible tied to the season's arc. However, this is largely because I've played pretty much everything but new scenarios. These I tend to play as they are released. So, I've been lucky enough to experience the story arc as it unfolds and have loved it. However, this may not be true for everyone.
