My take after some brainstorming, based on what little there is known of the Boneyard and how it all works.

Spoiler:

Those who enter the Boneyard cannot leave (excepting Pharasma's messengers, consistent with Greek & Sumerian myth). Easiest method seems to be to ride the River of Souls to the Boneyard by locating it on the Astral Plane, though a conflict with angels seems to be in order as they're tasked to protect the souls. Assuming they can bypass this challenge, the living cannot enter the Boneyard with physical belongings, for those in this realm have nothing.

The exception would be the sword because it is a soul, creating a loophole. Once in, finding a gravestone in the midst of millions may be impossible without aid.

Option 1: "Cut" to the front of the soul's line to be judged (the souls don't care), and it could offend Pharasma that one not dead wishes to be judged before their time, leading her to direct them to be buried in the graveyard. While they are being committed to a dire eternity here, they can strike the sword on the gravestone).

Option 2: Wielder now lets Armag possess him, and in this place, Armag as a soul enters the body rather than simply control it. The player's soul is free to find its gravestone. Once located, it must overpower Armag and reclaim the body in order to strike the gravestone before the Boneyard saps all memory and desire. Of course, the player can never leave this realm under its own power. In the alternative, Armag may, however unlikely, be reasoned with as he's got no escape except through death, but try convincing a warlord who thought himself immortal...

Escape: Resurrection or the like to petition the return of the soul. However, if this is done, because the soul entered here willingly, another must take its place (the Inanna myth).

Spoiler:
I had one of my players, a fighter and fervent follower of Gorum, lose against the Sisters and die just inside in the temple of Gorum.

He was mutilated (Sisters remember his spiked armor from the tales of the annihilation of their sisterhood in booklet 2) and unable to be resurrected. He was sent to the Boneyard which peeked the interest of Pharasma herself. She is reminded of the location of Ovinrbaane, and sees a perfect opportunity to finally be victorious AND steal a follower at the same time. She ordered him to go back, and bring back the sword to destroy it. Now he knows how to fix it, and has a way to go back and destroy the barbarian warlord who is about to threaten his land and his people. He accepted without hesitation.

Now, he has a piece of his own tombstone to use as a focus interplanar travel, which will also mark him as HERS. This will become a suit of magical armor upon completion of her quest.

Direct order from Ph:

//Introvert, but audible..

I knew it... He may be the strongest in battle, but his determination is nothing outside of it. Yet so many young ones follow him without a second thought... Idiots...
But now is the time.. I must seize this opportunity..

//Cold voice again
You...
I have a task for you.. You would be wise to think it over carefully before you agree.

I will return your soul to the Material Plane. You will find the sword they call Ovirnbaane, and will bring it back here, to my Boneyard. Then you will smash it three times against one of my Tombstones, destroying that wretched artifact once and for all!

Do... you.. agree..?

Silver Crusade

Hmmm, an option for if a character dies sounds good, like that.

Thanks!

Who knows, you might even botch the roles, and pick a player who doesn't mind (from a roleplaying perspective).

Silver Crusade

The sword has become a big deal for this party. It's the 2nd artifact they've come across (Book 3 the other spot), and the Book 3 artifact led to a PC turning rogue and fleeing with it, becoming an NPC. Wasn't the prettiest of partings.

Just seems like there's not much chatter on how people have handled artifacts. They're bad news for us.

In the booklet there is a tip for when you encounter troubles with the artifact.
Just make sure to have some knowledge rolls (is DANGEROUS!!) and some npcs (OMG!!) and maybe some hick in the city guard who polished it that accidentally killed 5 of the high-level and better trained officers.

Failing that: every week you wield it, you take 1 INT/WIS and CHA damage, permament.
Ovinrbaane wants to make sure it kan keep you firmly under its control.

Silver Crusade

They've got it under lock & key (for now) and are paranoid the barbarian tribes will get wind of its location and invade.

Might still happen...

It makes a great negotiation point for favors with the Pathfinder Society.

...and the churches. what do they know about it?

Silver Crusade

My players have covertly contacted a Pharasma sect and have negotiated for them to keep watch over the sword for the short term, hiding the sword in a monastery with the guise the priests are staying to meditate, not an uncommon practice. The Pharasma priests are tight-lipped about interpreting vague prophecy when it comes to disturbing their goddess, but since the sword is an affront to Pharasma, will help as they can.
