My main reason for increasing my pledge from 35 bucks to 100 was that I could get in early and grab a my character name. "Lord Feistybottoms" rides again!
All the swag and whatnot is nice, but the real reason for my 100 dollar pledge was to be in a pool that got to pick their names earlier. Call it names if you want, but this was my personal priority. I supposed I could have pledged even higher, but "Duke Feistybottoms" doesn't sound right to me.
So now I wonder if the 35 dollar pledge might be a better option, since you get most (all?) of the in-game advantages as the 100 dollar pledge.
I'm sure the 35 dollar people will probably pile in here with the yelling, but I really would like to know my options here because I may just rejoin you guys!
But a couple ideas:
1. Higher pledge = higher naming priority. You are trying to raise cash, right?
2. A "prioritize your name with how much cash you toss at it" add-on. Again, you do want to raise cash, right ?
Also, if no bones are tossed, will my pledge timer be credited with when I initially pledged my 35 bucks or when I moved up to the 100 dollar level. In other words, will I get penalized in terms of naming priority for increasing my pledge? What if I reduce my pledge to 35 dollars - will my initial pledge time stay the same?
Look, I am not trying to disparage pledges, you DO get some cool stuff with all the levels. However, my personal priorities are almost entirely in-game.

I don't know how your name mixes with the $10 add-on
$10 Honorable Tite
Prior to arriving in the River Kingdoms, your character served with distinction elsewhere and was recognized for that service. You'll be able to choose a formal title for your character of Sir, Dame, Master, Brother, Sister, Father or Mother. You will be able to control when this title is displayed to others in-game.
There have been quite a few discussions about names and it isn't sure what is/isn't allowed. As such it is dangerous in my mind to have the plege level determined by the name you want.
There are lots of other advantages that make the $100 pledge level interesting. Earlier start in the game, massive PDF pack, etc. So I think you get a lot of value - but the name you want might be not part of it at either level.

I'm thinking I'm grabbing Lord Feistybottoms and plan to auction it off to the highest bidder! ;)
I would think that qualified pledge date will establish naming priority. But that might not be true for those that get Alpha and Beta access. They might well go first for names, then by date. I think that would be justified.

I think there's only one person who wants it, so an auction will end at $1. How much will you pay me to try to bid that up a bit?

It has been established that you will not be penalized for increasing your pledge: your $35 date is preserved through the upgrade. The only way you might lose you place in line is if you zero out your pledge. That might cause you to lose your place in queue.
My undertanding that the date you first pledged $35 will determine the order of precedence rather than the amount of your pledge.

The only thing I could see being acceptable is giving pledge levels that involve providing a character background priority. Otherwise it should be by qualifying pledge date, not amount given.
That is a matter of opinion.
Amount given effects how much the Kickstarter gains to achieve the goal.
So, perhaps the larger donors "should" get to choose names first.
That would be another opinion.
Thus my question in the OP. Maybe we will get lucky and get something from the DEVs. Until then, I am sure opinions will vary.
P.S. I keel you, Lord Feistybottom name-takers! =p

Have they announced how Names will work? I'm hoping they go with a system that allows duplicate names.
Given that there are pledge options for which something in the game world is named for your character, I certainly hope exact duplicate names are not allowed.
I'm strongly tempted to pledge the geography buff for Chiassa, but won't do so if multiple people who didn't pledge it get the name recognition benefit.

Err.. if that is how Geography Buff works, I'd be sorely tempted, too!
Not sure if that is how it works though? Does anyone know for sure?

I have seen no reference to name exclusivity except the name reservation donation add-on and what is implied in the Geography Buff pledge. I suspect that there could be a Chiasa as well as Chiassa for example.
I would assume that names will be unique based on these. But Knowledge? That is in short supply out here.

All of these pledge levels - geography buff, item master, magic master and famous ancestor - refer repeatedly to "your character." Famous ancestor specifically references a physical similarity between the statue and "your character"'s in-game appearance. The others aren't that explicit, but all four levels ask for the same thing: "a proper name for a character and a 300-word history of that character".

Well, that is my point, exactly. All of these options follow the same pattern - at one point in the text, they refer to "a character" and then later on they refer to "your character" and still later talk about copywriting the name, ownership, etc.
Would be really cool if that is how Geography Buff, etc really DO work!
Think of it: "Feistybottom's Pie Shoppe" !

On top of that, switching your pledge to or from any of Crowdforger Pioneer, Crowdforger Buddy, or Crowdforger Guild will reset your place in line with respect to when you get into Early Enrollment.

I asked Ryan Dancey (via Kickstarter email) about the naming with regards to the Geography Buff and Brewmaster options:
Me:
"With regards to the Brewmaster and Geography characters, can the characters for which the brew or location are named be the same as a character we play in game?"
His response:
"Yes, that's kind of the point (although some folks will want a name not of their characters for various reasons)."
So it's really up to those that got these options whether it's named after a character they play in game or not.
I ended up getting the Geography Buff myself (in other news I'm now completely broke) so I'm quite curious as to how exactly it really works. How much choice do we get in terms of the location? etc.
I know mine will certainly be named after my main character. I'm still throwing around ideas as to what her story is, but I assume we have a number of months (or longer) to send it in.
