| The Rot Grub |
I realize that RotRL Anniversary Edition, like the original RotRL, is best used with the Fast XP track.
But for various reasons, I want to see how feasible it is to use the Medium XP Track. I am considering using parts of Kingmaker to create sidequests in the wilderness, and/or shoehorning-in miniquests that tie in to individual characters' story arcs. The Medium XP Track would give us more time to explore these possibilities.
In case anyone is wondering, I have considered hand-waving XP. But my players (and I) enjoy the regular rewarding of XP. I'd just like to hear other's people's concrete experiences actually trying to run RotRL with the Medium XP track.
Thanks in advance.

I'm running my RotRL-AE campaign on the medium track.
You need to supplement the published material with your own to make sure the PCs are of sufficient power level to meet the challenges. Actually, that's why I wanted to use the medium track.
Mostly, I've run an "interlude adventure" between chapters that serve similar themes or underscore the connections between chapters. The latter point was more important with the original version than with the AE. These have been a mix of homebrew and published adventures.
For example: My party just finished Hook Mountain Massacre, and they just made 10th level. I'm about to run my own major side-quest that's a mash up of The Golemworks Incident, Feast of Sigils, and Seven Swords of Sin. I expect them to be halfway to 12th at the end when we start Fortress of the Stone Giants.
See the Things You Changed And Things You Should Have thread for other options for side-quests.
