Guild / group search in PFO

Since game presented is going to be heavy group/guild oriented, i just wanted to ask if there is going to be some kind of instrument to search for team? For example, an ingame messageboard, where guild leaders can post information about recruiting or something?

It's not really the same thing, but Gregg Reece did a great job of putting together a Chartered Companies List.

Chartered Companies are kinda/sorta like Guilds, at least enough so that the list there will be useful if you're looking.

Well, I meant a way to announce your guild/company in game. Back in time there was a good thing in WAR, where guild leader was able to post information about his guild, like goals, recruitment information etc. in special interface, like a message on the wall. That was great and very convenient.

Though, thanks for info, i'l keep that in mind too.

Most games have a guild/alliance/clan search tool, I would be surprised if there wasn't one in PFO, at least by the open enrollment phase.

Not all games have a place you can post a detailed public description of your clan though. From the sounds of it though Ryan plans to bend over backwards to create tools to increase player interaction. He was even talking about something like Facebook built into the game where you can post player info, events, etc.

I think it would be fun to see modern life represented with magical systems in the game. TV's, smartphones, hi-tech Japanese toilet seats.

I would at least like in-character reasons for long distance communication and coming back after death. EVE is the only game I thought answered both these issues pretty well. I think some form of magic device for communication and some story involving the God's, or a single insane God wanting immortal champions could work.

i consider long distance communications making some bad realism, you would be allowed to have conversation just with people around, or in a hex at the maximum

Guild chats, whispering, and private chats all around the world is a mistake if its possible in PFO on my own.

Why don't give a letter to a messenger, why not going into the guild hall meeting us each others, to discuss goals, rules etc or to prepare groups before a travel or a search for a dongeon ?

+ More strategics in the game, (a spy needs to come back to his settlement hex to inform his commandant an army is growing in another settlement... or it's now time to attack the leader)

+ More realism, you can just wisper, speak or shout in a hex, and never call you're mates to help you if u're under the fire at the opposite side of the world... if you die, when you respawn, you can tell someone to help you, or ... Perhaps only a magical link to your guild hall divinity shrine could be used between players for long distance communication ?

There will be out of game, instant, voice communication. Just as many aspects of guild organization and perhaps even membership will be meta gamed.

If you limit in-game communication too much, you will make out of game communication required and or just put those that don't have out of game communication at a disadvantage.

Not that the disadvantage doesn't already exist, but it will be compounded.

@ Bludddwolf

i agree with your point of view, but i need to dream sometime ;)

I actually agree with you kenshi...in fact since all this other stuff exists, let GW focus on the other stuff that does not currently exist. I would happily play "at a disadvantage" if only local or magical chat existed in a game.

There are many tools available to add realism, even though it might not be necessary or required. Messengers, carrier pigeons, written messages carried by caravans in a formal scroll. Many of these types of communications may have more value due to the extra time and expense required to get the message through. It will largely be a Roleplaying feature, but if a group does not wish to violate the spirit of Pathfinder, they will opt for these alternate methods.

Other traditional and modern methods will still be used, but getting a scroll tube delivered by a messenger carries weight, and will give credibility to the sender.

I do like the concept of NPC/PC Couriers and Carrier Birds. A lack of 'map' channels means that your screen won't flash with 'found mithril node, Xy by Yz, next to Broken Stump Bog' and thirty groups all rush the site to mine it. Also Couriers and Carrier Birds can be 'detained' (Re: Mugged/Murdered) and their cargoes taken, either for ransom or to give competing groups a potential edge on each other.

On the other hand, I do like the concept of player-made 'OOC' global channels that you can only be invited into. Better to have it 'IN' the game, where the channels can be monitored for negative actions that might impact the game, rather than 'OUT' of the game, where there's nothing Goblinworks can do.
