So I know that there's a popular series of novel by Diana Gabledon called "Lord John" and it's about this British dude who solves mysteries.
I was getting read yto just buy the first book and start reading it when I decided to check out Mrs. Gabladon herself.
I found out she got famous by writing the "Outlander" series, which seems to be Ffity Shades of Grey, only with TIME TRAVEL and SCOTSMEN (so you get kilts instead of suits I suppose).
Put mildly, I have no interest whatsoever to read anything remotley like fifty Shades of Grey.
So, does anyone know more details about the Lord John novels? are they any good? if I don't want to read "romantic" novels do I have a reason to check them out? for some reason Wikipedia is not sharing this information with me.

I've read one of the short stories and it was okay. It seemed to be more military history than OUTLANDER itself, which is more heavily influenced by romance novels. In fact, it reminded me a bit of the FLASHMAN novels by George MacDonald Fraser, only far less entertaining.
However, one thing that is for sure is that Diana Gabaldon can actually write and her prose is actually readable, unlike FIFTY SHADES. The content is another matter, but certainly as a prose writer she's pretty decent.
