sorry if this is not the place to ask but i have an issue with wone 3.5 spell the lat sunday...
... and i wish to know if someone can help me please.
FEARSOME GRAPPLE
Transmutation
Level: Sorcerer/wizard 2
Components: V
Casting Time: 1 immediate action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 1 round/level
Two short, otyughlike tentacles sprout from
under your arms to hang limply at your
sides. When you think of grappling, the
tentacles twitch to life and wave about as
if seeking a foe.
You grow two tentacles that grant you
a +4 circumstance bonus on grapple
checks. These tentacles cannot attack,
hold objects, manipulate items, or perform
any action other than grappling.
If your caster level is at least 9th, you
grow four tentacles instead, and the
circumstance bonus increases to +8.
Questions:
1.- that means if i cast it, then those tentacles can attak with grapple thread as a free action?
2.- they provoke AoO
3.-as a mage which cast it, can attack bymyself or what?
Really we will apreciate if u can help us!!
my group, i, and Harrowstone will thanku in regards!!

thanks!!
i was trying to think how give this $%%$"//% spell some useful deeds
imagine: spell level 2 (means caster at 3rd at least)... cast it, and try to grapple an CR 2 monster... ok a Gnol beter!! i provoke AoO, supose the gnol fails, supose i grapple him... and then? whats happen next?
what motivates to my wizard to pick this spell?
remember that this spell was made for 3.5 rules, there no suffocation issues when grappling...
errrr..... a lame spell
some one can tell me how u will use this spell?
if the tentacles act by themselves, i found a lot of uses but only for +4 grapple... well, i can guess now why 4thE is so lame
i was thinking to drop this question to the WotC, but actualy since that guy-like W. Paul Anderson to the rol leads the D&D i prefeer dont do that!!
i hate Paul´s movies, as i hate 4the and the new D&D next, so i think theyre with theyre Pop´s ideas, can´t actually help me quit a bit neither

Hmm, if I'm reading that correctly, it can be case as a swift / immediate action (although the spell doesn't specify the trigger condition for taking that immediate action, which is a significant omission).
Presumably, one of the intended uses for this spell would be to cast it in reaction to someone attempting to grapple you (and therefore make it harder for them to catch you / easier for you to escape). Given that textbook Sorcerers and Wizards are pretty weak in grapples, this may give them a fighting chance.
It may also be useful to some gish builds, who can cast it as a swift and still have a move and standard to go pin some poor fool down (+4 from spell, probably +4 from Imp and Greater grapple, decent BAB and strength would make this an effective combination).

Given that it is an immediate reaction, I imagine it might be useful as a defence against being grappled. In 3.5 if a foe tries to initiate a grapple they need to make a touch attack and then succeed in an opposed Grapple check - so gaining a +4 to Grapple would help prevent the initial grapple working. And if that fails the +4 bonus can help escape from the grapple.

What the heck has this to do with D&D 4th Edition??????

What? I simply didn't understand any of that?
i hate Paul´s movies, as i hate 4the and the new D&D next,
So completely irrelevant to the topic of this thread you just thought you'd let us all know you hate D&D 4th Ed and D&D Next (I assume you're part of the playtest then to make an informed decision)? What did you hope to accomplish with this? Are you trolling?

I can't recall, but do you actually need a specific trigger? Can't you just decide to use an Immediate Action?
