Serpent's Skull

Liberty's Edge

Alright so this may be a little late to ask considering we have our game tomorrow at 6pm but I figure it's worth a shot!

So long story short we've been playing Serpent's Skull for a good bit and we're nearing the end of the third book. One of the character's is lawful(plays chaotic) evil. And he's trying to get the party murdered; it's a fruitless effort because the other players are well... not dumb enough to fall for any of his traps. So this coming up session he wants to join up with the Rakshasa. They've encountered him before and it didn't go to well. Now this PC is going to go back and try to sell out the party to him. Unfortunately, he's going to have other plans. He's going to capture this player and basically hold him for ransom until he gets bored and kills him. Unless of course the party meets his demands and walks into his trap. ;p

The demands he's going to have are going to be for the party to take out key figures or retrieve certain items so that he can spread power throughout the city. I just don't know what those should be. He sees this as a game so it needs to be entertaining. For sure I think he'll have them assassinate Osond considering his daughter is now a party member. But still... I need some more ideas. And it should all be very time consuming and very resource consuming so when the party goes to retrieve him he'll have the upper hand.

Please and Thank you!!!

Perhaps the Rakshasa could know about something in the sunken merchant district? A bank would be a good possiblity. Mulitiple levels, traps, perhaps some undead tellers/accountants?

Liberty's Edge

If only, my players went through that bank when they first got to the city. Good suggestion though! :]]

Yar!

If you are indeed nearing the end of book three, you can use this to lead in to book 4.

*SPOILERS*

some ideas:
Perhaps the Rakshasa knows about some of the spare crystals to activate the portal to Ilmuria, and want to get them, either for his own ego (shinies!) of to extend his game and area of influence to Ilmuria as well.

Perhaps he knows nothing about Ilmuria, but wants some objects located within the Vaults of Madness? Water from the Argent Font. A complete and living midnight-spore plant. Ulscher's (sp) lab journal.

Perhaps it's on one of these tasks that lead them to the first vault just in time for Juliver to run out having already destroyed the crystal powered portal.

Book four also has some serious loot in it. Perhaps some of those specific loots become the goals (book for is all about exploring the vaults and some new factions that join the fray to make life more difficult)... thus potential turning the Rakshasa's game into dealing with the newcomers: the Gorilla King (steal an item from him perhaps), Ivo's insane camp of the Consortium, linked to them is the Intellect Devourer and all of his otherworldly devices, etc.

Then there are the many un-detailed things still from book three. He could want a 10,000 year old tome from the temple to Pharasma. Fresh slime from the body of the Aboleth (how will they keep it fresh?), the tooth of a Froghemoth or the Mkole-mbembe, an ever-changing colored feather of a Camalutz, or one of their vorpal beaks. The head of one of the statues of soldiers. Silk form the huge dream spider. A scale of the body of the Lillend. A single rib form the body of Saventh herself (located in the very well protected and sealed boulder with spires atop it grave/tomb at the edge of the temple district), or anything else form that compeltely un-detailed yet potentially huge catacombs. The Mantis Blade! There are so many possibilities!

FYI: the above spoilered ideas are all from memory. I'm at work and don't have my books with me... but I hope it's a useful start!

:D

edit: fixed some typos and added some more ideas.

Scarab Sages

You might want to consider fixing the 'problem' all together. This is just one of that player trying to do in his party. Once this is all over and he and the party are still alive, what is to stop him from doing so again.

I do agree with 'Pirate' up here that this is the perfect moment to introduce book 4. Perhaps the 'main bad guy' of the book is having interactions or shows up, or the like and the evil PC kind of has to return to the group.

One of the main motivations of a Rakshasa is to be worshiped by those he feels are his inferiors. So, if your PCs have dealt with a good number of the serpentfolk in the Government District, then Akarundo is probably looking for more worshipers. You could have him request the PCs to bring him the head(s) of a leader in another district or faction so he can go in and dominate the rest of the population into submission.

Or, Akarundo could simply request that the PCs themselves drop to their knees and worship him, or the captive dies. My guess is that the PCs would refuse regardless of the circumstances, thus your problem is solved entirely. ;)
