Dire Weasel animal companion

Homebrew and House Rules

I'm building an NPC kobold nature oracle, and as everybody knows, kobolds ride dire weasels. Yet, Paizo hasn't published stats for one. In light of what is perhaps one of the greatest mistakes a company in the RPG field has ever made, let's try and remedy the situation.

I'm thinking a few things. It should start small and thenincrease to medium at 4th level. It should have really high dexterity. Like, 17 or 19. Even after the size increase, it should have a higher dex than str. It should have a climb speed. It needs to have attach and scent.
Here's what I'm thinking:
Size Small
Dex 19, Str 10, Con 15, Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 5
Scent, Low-Light Vision
Bite 1d4
Speed 30 ft, climb 20 ft
Natural Armor +2

Level four upgrade:
Dex -2, Str +4, Con +2
Bite 1d6 plus attach
2 claws 1d4

I balanced it with the badger. I figured the higher dex was ok because no burrow speed. Attach replaces rage. Also, it doesn't get claws until medium. Good?

Greetings, fellow traveller.

I love the idea of playing a kobold with a dire weasel!

There is a thread buried in these forums where a this topic came up (2009?) and was answered by JJ by suggesting that you could (just) use the badger/wolverine (which you did!).

Ok, some issues I see:

  • Giving it another +2 to DEX is quite a treat - which is not balanced by dropping CHA by 5, IMO.
  • I'd go for climb 15 ft.
  • The disadvantage it has with gaining its claw attacks only after (also) evolving is moot, IMO, since that's exactly when it starts to matter; plus: you'll spend much more time above lvl 4 than below.

    Otherwise: totally fits the bill!

    EDIT: Found it!

  • Poo, I really want it to have that high dex. What if I dropped str by 2? So here are the changes I'm thinking.

Claws to start (1d3, then 1d4)
    Drop climb to 15 feet.
    Str 8, Dex still 19
Starts with attach at level 1. Should attach give a bonus to grapple checks, or no, because it's automatically a success?
Gains "blood drain" at level 4, which will function as a bleed attack at JJ's suggestion. How much damage should that deal?

The differences between weasel and badger: lower str by 2, higher dex by 2, no burrow speed, rage is replaced with attach and bleed attack.

    Looks good to me!
