Force Mage...

Homebrew and House Rules

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Force Supremacy:
Spells with the force descriptor count as one level lower when determining the total spell level after meta-magic feats have been applied. i.e. – an Extended Mage Armor spell counts as a 1st level spell while an Quickened Mage Armor spell counts as a 4th level spell.

Force Push:
As a swift action you can cause a burst of force to emanate from you, pushing back adjacent creatures 1 size level larger than you or smaller 5’ and knocking them prone. A successful Reflex saving throw negates being knocked prone. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + ½ your wizard level + your INT modifier. You may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your intelligence modifier.

Blade Barrier:
At 8th level you can unleash a Blade Barrier as a standard action. This ability functions as the 6th level Cleric spell but is limited to a ring centered on you, moving with you, with up to a 5’ radius. This maximum radius increases to 10’ at 12th level, 15’ at 16th level and 20’ at 20th level. This ability can be used a number of rounds per day equal to your Wizard level. These rounds do not have to be consecutive.

Of course one would need new Force spells to make the character a little more playable... here are some ideas:

Caltrops
(1st level, 10' area + 10' area/4 levels, functions as normal clatrops, 1 minute/level)
Lesser Force Daggers
(2nd level, move action ranged attack using INT instead of DEX for attack and instead of STR for damage, does not provoke, deals 1d4 base damage with +1 enhancement, lasts 1 round/level)
Force Construct
(2nd level, creates 1 rigid object with no moving parts such as a weapon or key, 5 cubic feet, 1 min/level)
Lesser Mage Sword
(3rd level, as Mage Sword but +1 enhancement bonus, 2d6+1 damage)
Force Daggers
(4th level, move action ranged attack using INT instead of DEX for attack and instead of STR for damage, does not provoke, deals 2d4 base damage with +2 enhancement, lasts 1 round/level)
Shards of Force
(5th level, 60 foot ranged cone, 1d4+1/level damage)
Greater Mage Armor
(6th level, +8 AC)
Giant Weapon
(7th level, Single attack by giant force weapon dealing 1d8 force damage/level, 5' radius if blunt weapon, 15' cone if slash weapon, 25' line if piercing weapon, Reflex save for half damage)
Mass Force Constructs
(7th level, creates 1 rigid object/level, 10 minutes/level)
Bonds of Force
(8th level, paralyzes 1 creature and levitates them just above the ground, they can be moved as the caster wishes 20' as a move action, 1 round/level, no save, spell resistance applies, affects incorporeal creatures, opposed strength check vs. Caster level check each round to overcome)
Ultimate Weapon
(9th level, as Giant Weapon but with duration of 1 round +1 round/4 levels, move action to direct)

Any additional ideas for spells with the Force descriptor, or any comments or critiques on the archetype are most welcome.

I really need to start titling my posts something like 'why monks suck', 'why Paladins are better than Fighters' or 'Summoners are overpowered'...

Yes, you should. Nothing gets the conversation going like the old 'bait and switch.' :P

Are you looking to make a unique caster, an archetype based on another caster, or PrC. Your answer will determine the input.

Also, SmiloDan has something in the same vein started.

Me like. Reminds me of my old Force Missile Mage Sorc from 3.5 and this seems appropriate for remaking him. So is this a Wizard school or a Sorc bloodline? Or both?

The archetype was created following the same guidelines used to create the various specialty school Wizards like the Enchanter or Evoker. This would be a straight up wizard similar to any of those... consider it a variant of the elemental wizard.

Drat.

Heh - you should see some of the exhaustive posts I've made which have garnered nary a response, like the 20+ themed monster summoning lists for specialty summoners and conjurers... but those same old arguments get hundreds of posts all saying the same thing over and over. Its a shame I tell ya.

... link? I'm playing a Summoner and a summon-loving Witch in two different campaigns right now. =)

Here you go. It starts off with some observations about the Summoner class in general, but the summoning lists themselves are listed below. It'd be easier to get you an excel version of it though, if you wanted.

LOL - just posted one. Feel free to revive the thread if you see anything you like. I'd LOVE to get some discussion going there as the lists can always be tweaked and perfected.

Maybe upload it to Google Docs?

Or I could just type it up in Greek...

;-P

Seriously - no idea how to do that.

Here. Register if you don't already have a Google/Gmail/whatever account and you're in business.

There'll be a pair of buttons on the left once you're logged in - "Create" and "Upload". Just upload the Excel file, then once it's online click in the top-right corner on the "Share" box and it'll open up a window. Click "Change" and set it to "anyone with link can view", then post the link to the doc here. =)

Making the attempt here.

Excellent. Let me know what you think. I'm going to post the link in the original thread.
