Prison tattoos [Spoilers]

1 person marked this as a favorite.

For my PBEM, I decided to combine S6 - Branding Room and S7 - Induction Chamber of the Harrowstone Prison. I left the Induction Room empty and 'moved' two sets of animated manacles to the Branding Room. I revised the haunt in the branding room by limiting it to the brazier and branding irons and to only 'attack' once a living person is within 5' of the brazier. The attack would be 2 branding irons for 1d3 damage. The cool part was how to get the PCs to that corner. Well, here come the animated manacles. The manacles will grapple the PCs and drag them to the brazier.

This isn't meant to kill anyone but I get a cool pic of a PC being dragged to the corner to get his prison tattoo.

Both Wandesii and Beth, having their own type of markings, were particularly on edge as they approached the room. Wandessi explained that part of Harrowstone’s processing procedure for new prisoners included branding; before a new prisoner was taken to his cell, he was brought to this room and given his brand. These brands were placed either on the right forearm or the back of the neck, and consisted of a letter and a number combination.

This stark room contained a low stone bench against the north wall and a ruined desk to the west that sat under three narrow, barred windows. An old brass brazier lay to the south, surrounded by several rusty branding irons.

Again, they felt the otherworldly echoes of anguish and shame but this time, they were punctuated with anger. As branding was among the first elements of humiliation and pain that new prisoners suffered upon arriving at Harrowstone, they had become a focus of the haunted prison’s spiritual anger. The faint sobbing was again heard but it quickly turned to maniacal screaming as if someone was trying to get away, as far away as possible from the south corner of the room. Among the chains that littered the floor near the door, two sets of manacles tore free and floated towards the group. Suddenly the brazier flared to life and the smell of burning flesh inundated the room. The now red-hot irons stirred in the coals waiting for the next prisoner to brand...
