Adding items to Scenario Chronicles

Liberty's Edge

I had a player decide to do some creative skinning of one of the mobs he killed. Specifically:

Spoiler:
The Krenshar in First Steps, Part III: A Vision of Betrayal.

My question, the player wanted to keep the pelt, but, it was not an item listed on the chronicle. Is it legal as a GM to add this non-magical, purely aesthetic item to the player's Chronicle?

If it's purely aesthetic, why does it need to be recorded on the chronicle sheet? If he's using it to replace the cloak that's come with his explorer's outfit for no mechanical benefit, he can simply add it to his character's description, just as if he took the ears of all the orcs he's killed and put them on a necklace.

Have him decide how much money he wants to spend ensuring that the Pelt remains fresh, and how good he wants it to look, then having him record a fur Cloak (Ultimate Equipment) of that value in items bought. As Far as I know, Fur Cloak should be an always available item.

Wow, how freaky to see a post about me!

The only reason I asked for it to be added to the chronicle sheet was so that later, if I ever mentioned that I'm wearing a krenshar-skin cloak and a GM challenges me on where I got the materials, I have a chronicle sheet to back me up.

That's all.

heck, sometimes it's kewl to have stuff that came from an adventure.

I have Judge notes on one of PCs that an NPC PROPOSED to him, asked him to marry her... not something that will ever come up again. But something I'll mention and remember whenever I look back at my Chronicles.

I've had a PC buy a "Special Lucky Coin" from a vender in the Gods Market in Absolam (I was the judge, and the NPC was a good salesman, and the PC has a low WIS... you get the picture). So I noted it on his Chronicle. "This Coin came from the money pouch of Abadar himself! Honest Abdul's personal gar-n-tee! It will insure that 5% of all attack rolls over the life of the contract, are a natural 20! Or double your money back!" .... yeah. I've seen the Player drag out the Chronicle when he's at a different table and give the big (in character) story.

"Special touches" on the chronicle can be lots of fun. Just nothing to alter the mechanics of the game, and if it's all RP fluff - it's gravy. Adds to the flavor...

There is nothing wrong with adding fluff to a Chronicle sheet. As long as a GM isn't adding mechanical advantages or creating items that aren't there, much like Nosig's example, I've got no problem with it.

Try this. Next time you judge a game, if you have the time, come up with something to add to someones chronicle. Even if it's only one person per table. Some one that it was fun to have at your table. Some little 'fluff' thing they did, or something you noticed about thier character. Add it as a note in the white space on the bottom of the chronicle. "PC receives a letter from time to time from XXX, who admires the Hero that rescued them from the slavers pen." Slap your initials on it just like it was a day job roll.

What Andoran freedom fighter wouldn't kill for that note?

Doesn't upset the game balance, and it'll make thier day. They'll remember that game, that NPC, forever. And you know what? next time they are signing up for a game - maybe they'll check out who's judging what, and you'll get a player at your table that you enjoy having there.

One of my chronicles says

Wonders in the Weave pt1:
"Representative of the Eggfinders"

which is the title we used when referring to ourselves to the natives to help diplomacy efforts.

Due to some roleplaying that got out of hand during "The Cyphermage Dilemma," my LG Aasimar cleric of Torag is now marked for death by a crime lord in Riddleport. Apparently, when making a Gather Information check to find a band of pirates, you shouldn't ask random passers-by "Does anyone know where I can find work as a pirate?" Now if he ever plays another scenario in Riddleport, I'll be sure to show the GM that chronicle.
