Conversions

I was greatly inspired by Daemonslye's conversions of classic D&D modules from the 70s and 80s.

I was going to post one of my own conversions here, but I then I saw Daemonslye had his conversions removed.

I don't understand what it was specifically that made his modules against the rules. I see lot of other conversions here of D&D material even more recent than Daemonslye's conversions.

Can a Paizo person help explain? I would like to post without violating the rules.

Not a Paizo person, but I actually was one who flagged a number of Daemonslye's conversions for Paizo's review. He used a LOT of the original artwork, including the actual module covers, from the items he was converting. He also interspersed a number of new images taken from other sources (a number of them were Paizo's images) into the works. Now these made the items look very nice, but redistributing such copyrighted images is not permitted on Paizo's forums (and technically illegal as well I believe).

He kept a lot of the original wording from the works as well I believe (it's been awhile since I had read his conversions), and the same overall layout in the modules/books. You are able to paraphrase a copyrighted work, but reprinting/posting the bulk of a copyrighted work is again not really OK to do.

I know his extra work to do these items made works that were great to look at and read, and were definitely worth something. Unfortunately, distribution of items containing the above is not really allowed in the current scheme of things.

I think staying away from those two big items will help any conversions still be kosher. If it's your words paraphrasing the content story content, and your own images (or permitted to use images), then you're pretty much good to go.

I hope this helps a little.

Sincerely,
Snigg
