Any other San Francisco based Pathfinder players?

Local Play

The Bay Area has a lot of pathfinder society players and venues and very active society events at local cons but perhaps due to a dearth of friendly local games stores inside of SF there isn't, as far as I know, a regular pathfinder society game inside of SF.

Since SF only has one games store, Gamescape on Divisedero which has relatively little playing space and a fairly full schedule already I think we should look to alternative venues.

Ideally I'd love to help organize a regular Pathfinder game somewhere in downtown SF on a weekday evening.

Are there other players (and GM's) in SF?

What night(s) work best for people? And don't conflict with other nearby games such as at Endgame in Oakland or at Gamescape North in San Rafael (Monday night).

I may be able to offer a conference room at my office but perhaps a more public venue which could accommodate multiple tables and possible dropin players would be better.

My personal preference would be for a Tuesday or Wednesday night though I might also be able to do Mondays. I'm happy to DM (or equally happy to play)

Assuming we find a downtown location we'll probably be close to BART and Muni so players from outside of SF would also be welcome to join us.

When I was active in the Camarilla, we used to regularly game at the Embarcadero Center. Its been a while, but it seems as if there were public tables that could be used for gaming if folks aren't opposed to playing in public. It's certainly easy to get to and there are good food options nearby.

Otherwise, libraries may be an option on weekends (most aren't open late enough to support weeknight play).

It would be great to get a regular location in the city itself.

outside venues for Pathfinder (or inside a space like the Embarcadero Center) might be tricky with a mini-heavy game like Pathfinder - I definitely agree about the food options being nearby and good - but I think the space might be tricky. I'm not entirely opposed to playing somewhere somewhat in public - but it has a large number of downsides as well (noise/events in the space etc)

It would be great if there were more game stores in SF especially downtown or near muni/BART - somewhat surprisingly not too many SF comics stores (of which there are many) have roleplaying games in any large quantities. But perhaps that would be one route to explore. Another would be if there are any cafes or restaurants (or perhaps bars) in the downtown area that would have a space we could use on a regular basis (bars would have the issue of lighting however). It would have to be a place that stays open fairly late to accomodate weeknight play so that may be an issue in the downtown/financial district/SOMA area as many places close fairly early (and those places that stay open late are frequently fairly crowded on a regular basis). This is why i was thinking that perhaps a business space like a conference room might work well though it doesn't support new players quite as well.

Noisebridge may be another good place to check out. The hacker / maker folks have a lot of good will toward gaming.

I don't want to speak for Azmyth, but I know that there would be a lot of folks very happy to see PFS in San Fran itself. Finding a venue and a local coordinator have been the two drawbacks.

Noisebridge might be an option - though I was a former (and very early - before their current space) member I'm not an active member at the moent- the current location in the Mission isn't great for me to get home from - but that is a personal thing. I was somewhat thinking about potentially other coworking spaces in SOMA which might have a conference room or two available on a regular basis or some downtown cafes/restaurants that might also have spaces that a regular group could use. I'm happy to be a local coordinator if we can find a space and get a group together on a regular basis.

I've heard recently that there are groups playing in Pubs (21+ players) as well as Libraries. Might be feasible for SF?

SF has great community centers. The first one that comes to my mind is between Castro and Lower Haight at the Park. I think it's called Harvey Milk community center or something. They might be open late.

I hit Endgame last night. Before the game, at Pacific Brewing, Will Lacross mentioned that the VA Memorial Hall may be available for use with a fee. Will can probably provide more detail, but I'm unsure if he checks the message boards.

Will, Will also mentioned you have to be a veteran to make that work. Not everyone, but at least one of the players/judges needs to be.

He was also pitching it more as a one day convention rather than an ongoing game, but a little negotiation and either might work.

Good luck!!

I'm going to start with a few restaurants/cafes I frequent as well as some downtown SF tech and gaming firms & shared office spaces. I suspect there are many gamers at local games companies and tech firms - may be able to get a regular space we can play at. Ideally one that could accommodate multiple tables and a relatively early start time (I'm aiming for 5:30 so we can end around 10 most evenings. Looks like we have some interest so far around 5 players have expressed interest.

I, too, work in SF. If you can find the spot, Rycaut, we can definitely rock the PFS.

Double bonus points if we can find a spot within reasonable walking distance from BART.

I love traveling to all the different BAPS events and would love to come out to one in the city once I'm back in town.

So the big news is I have a venue plus two potential backup venues!

And it is a fantastic huge space - a local game development incubator located in the heart of downtown sf just a few blocks from BART and Muni with tons of nearby restaurants. The space will even offer free red bull and I'm going to work on getting other beverages and perhaps coordinating food. On a personal note it is a block from my office - and it is really easy to get to (1st & Howard)

I'm going to organize the events as a weekly game night every Wed evening starting on Oct 3rd. Because of the space registration (free via Eventbrite) will be needed. I'll be inviting gamers of all varieties to join us - boardgames, card games, RPGs and video games (heck miniatures would be welcome if anyone organizes it). The goal is to have a really fun weekly gathering of gamers in SF.

I'll post a registration link as a new thread when it is live and hope to get a warhorn page up to start coordinating judges and players and scenarios etc.

The great thing about this space is that it is some 15-20,000 sq ft of mostly open space set up with tables and chairs for coworking along with multiple conference rooms. So very large space, well lit and run by gamers for gamers. From the interest already shown here and elsewhere I think we should quickly be able to have at least two and possibly more than two tables of PFS going.

Very, very cool!

I'll see what I can stir up on my end. I might be able to make it every once in awhile...
