Question about OGL / Community Use

Paizo General Discussion

For a student project I was looking to make a small site about Pathfinder and tabletop RPGs in general (but mostly about Pathfinder); The idea was to try to explain basic rules and character generation to a layman audience using Pathfinder. With that said, I looked at the OGL and Community Use Policy but had a question about it that I was hoping someone could answer.

I saw the Community Use Policy specifically mentioned being able to direct quote product descriptions and make "descriptive reference" to a number of things, but did not seem to make reference to other direct quotes, such as rules text, feats, or race and class descriptions from a book (like d20pfsrd does). Would that be covered under anything in the Community Use Policy, the OGL, or would I need a special permission for something like that?

You need the OGL if you're referring to the rules. You need the Community Use is you're also using artwork.

Ok, so under the OGL I can directly quote rules? Sorry, just wanted to make sure I was correct.

IANAL, but if you're going to be using the rules in your project, you should include a copy of the OGL and the Compatibility Text from here, just to cover your bases.

Yes, you can directly quote anything marked as Open Content.

Thanks for the confirmation on that, DMFTodd.

I didn't see the Compatibility Text until now, and with what I'm planning on doing it probably won't be necessary but yeah it can't hurt to be sure. Thanks for that.
