Most MMO's take years to develop, Morian. This isn't something that can just be rushed into and still have a quality product. At the earliest, I'd say it would take abut 3 years, if at all. Funding might be difficult to get from outside sources due to almost every MMO the past 2 years or so fading quickly. Star Wars: The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2 being the notable exceptions.

From what I hear, Star Wars: The Old Republic is going free-to-play.
Guild Wars 2 is probably the better exception, but on the other hand, they are pay once (if I hear right), while Star Wars: The Old Republic is pay once and then pay monthly.

In the mean time, just be patient, read the Goblinworks blogs, and go have fun playing the tabletop game... Also, when I say read the goblinworks blogs, I mean all of them :| Not sure if you have or not, but a lot of people on here do not sound like they read the blogs at all. I really think they should pin a thread saying "Read the Blog before you post"... but that's just me complaining.
When will then be now?
Now. However, now is not the now you are waiting for. The now for the release is going to be a few months to few years away.

When will then be now?
Colonel Sandurz: Try here. Stop.
Dark Helmet: What the hell am I looking at? When does this happen in the movie?Colonel Sandurz: Now. You're looking at now, sir. Everything that happens now, is happening now.
Dark Helmet: What happened to then?
Colonel Sandurz: We passed then.

Colonel Sandurz: Just now. We're at now now.
Dark Helmet: Go back to then.
Colonel Sandurz: When?

Colonel Sandurz: I can't.
Dark Helmet: Why?
Colonel Sandurz: We missed it.
Dark Helmet: When?
Colonel Sandurz: Just now.
Dark Helmet: When will then be now?

Very soon...
OP:Release date is sufficiently far away to be of no matter. But as with mmorpgs, tends to the longer time scale 4-6 years eg!! But GW have plans for a lean launch, so once/if investment is achieved, potentially 2 and up years I'd go for...
