Alright, for those of you not familiar, spirit shaman is a 3.5 class that's kinda like a spont druid. except you get to pick your spells "known" each day. now i have a player who is playing one, and we're not changing it really at all (aside from the skills obviously). The only question was, should they get more spells retrieved. Every other spont caster got more spells known in PF. The spirit shaman only has 3 max spells 'known' for the day of any level, and that's not a lot. Now, they had less than the sorc before ,for obvious reasons, and that should stay. Otherwise it's too powerful. But the player and I were curious if they should progress to 4 known maybe max, at the same progression as before. For example....
for level 2 spells retrieved, the Spirit shaman would normally get 1 at 3rd through 5th, 2 at 6th through 8th, and 3 9th through 11th. then it caps at three. we were thinking to increase it, make it 4 at 12+. doesnt make them any more powerful early game, but helps them keep up late game (the campaign is going to 20 mind you), so they dont end the game only being able to know 3 first level spells a day.
Also, they only ever get to 'know' 3 Orisons, which is pathetic. I was thinking of increasing that up to 6 at least.
In the end, it would give the spirit shaman one extra spell known per day of first through sixth level (and the 6th level spell would be gotten AT lvl 20), and that's all.
thoughts?

thanks for the suggestion. Look a look. It looks interesting but we're decided on the class already. It gives the effect he wants and what the party needs. Shaman looks neat and cool, but it also seems very needlessly complex. IF i could get an answer to my actual question, that'd be great. I just want to know if people think it's necessary to up the number of spells retrieved to keep the spirit shaman competitive at later levels.

I loved the unique way that Spirit Shamans got their spells. That being said, I think that the reason they had so few spells was to balance out that they could actually change their Spells Known. You could do something like a bonus Domain Spell to have an extra spell. Just give them access to a Druid's Domain.

I like the idea of giving them a domain. that way it locks them in, and gives them some extra abilities. just like every other casting class in the game now, they get a special ability or two, and some set spells. domain it is!

Just to follow up on this ...
I'm not sure what you mean by "very needlessly complex". I'm wondering if you perhaps are looking at some other class? The Shaman class I am talking about is this one ===>The Expanded Shaman :)
It sounds like you are going a different way, which is fine and I wish you all the best in your game! However, for anyone else looking for a fun, interesting, well balanced (and well reviewed) shaman / spontaneous druid type of class for Pathfinder, I really hope you will take a look at the Expanded Shaman :)
