Looking for a group

Gamer Connection

I live in pretty remote area, and thus far any gaming stores I've found are caught up on Magic: The Gathering or Warhammer so I've had a terrible time locating any sort of group to play Pathfinder with. Any interested persons I do find are also new to the game, and most want me to GM, though I have no experience and a -VERY- lose understanding of the rules and game mechanics having never really played before. I've stumbled through the Beginner Box a few times and read the Core Rulebook (which I also own) cover to cover, and have scanned through the GM book and the Advanced Players Guide at a few book stores.

My request is this: I'm hoping someone might have such an unwaivering love and fire for the game that they may be willing to work with me to help teach me. My suggested means would be skype, but I'm open to any other ideas.

Please help a gamer(hopefully) in need?

I think if you specify where you are, you might get more attention. Even over skype, things like time zone are issues.

Have you tried asking in play by post forums? For an actual online game throu Skype or live messenger people would require to be from your time zone and have similar work schedules, so it isn't easy.
A play by post is similar enough to a RL game, only it progresses at a slower pace (the GM posts info for the players then everyone has to wait for the others to have posted their actions)

My advice: take those other beginners who are also interested in playing and take turns GMing the game. You go first.

Stick with the Beginner Box. There is no reason to even consider the stuff from Advanced Players Guide until you are an advanced player! I wouldn't even worry about the Core Rulebook yet. That is what the Beginner Box is for!

Don't worry about whether or not you will make mistakes GMing. You will. Everyone does. It's no big deal. The point is to have fun. If there is a rule you don't understand, ignore it until someone in your group figures out how it works. Until then, make it up.

Start with the adventure from the Beginner Box. After that, consider some of the free adventures from the Pathfinder Society (you can find them on this site). Or you can write your own! :) If you go this route, start small. Use the adventure in the BB as a guide.

By rotating GM duty you will accomplish two things:
1. You will all get to play and you will all get to GM; you will find that some of you might prefer to GM than to play.
2. You will all get good exposure to the rules!

It might even be a good idea to play the same intro adventure several times, each with a different GM and each time letting the players play different characters!

Have fun. :)

I hadn't considered that, but I'm EST of the United States. More specifically, central West Virginia.

Are you in Beckley? I have people in Beckley WV. I am on the MST right now but they only free time I have for a project is while I am at work overnight M-F. And would need to get more people. That being said getting together around a table is best.

A few hours north of Beckley: Grafton WV to be exact.
