Maybe I should have known this before I purchased the whole set but it seems these are not written to the "Pathfinder" rules but to the D&D 3.5 rules. really??? The home page for the adventure path says "Pathfinder" all over it!!!!!! hmmmm it should really state that on the adventure path page......

I saw the thread with the all the PDFs to convert stats to Pathfinder but do I really need to have a whole set of stat blocks out side the provided material? I was hoping I could calculate CMD and CMB off the grple stat and go with it. I really do now want a full set of stuff out side the provided material

Any one else run this with the Pathfinder rule set? Any big issues that they found???

Maybe I am over reacting a little bit...maybe there are no issues....I guess when I buy something labeled "Pathfinder"...I expect "Pathfinder"! It would have been nice to know it was not written with that rule set.....

It says Pathfinder because that is what game world/product identity Paizo used/uses for their gaming line.

All of the product for sale for second darkness is clearly labeled OGL in the product title not PFRPG,denoting the game system for which it is used with, in this case the OGL rules 3.0/3.5.

"Pathfinder" was the name of the line of APs before a new ruleset was even thought of. The other product lines are divided into 3.5 and PfRPG on their main pages, but they do have the AP page divided simply by each separate AP; they probably could stand to be a little more clear. See the term (OGL) at the end of the title of each book? That means it was written for 3.5 rules; the first AP written for PfRPG rules was Council of Thieves. See the (PFRPG) designation? As previously stated, though, unless you know what you're looking for, it's not very clear.

That said, many of us, including me, ran this AP under Pathfinder rules (actually, I started under Beta rules and converted to the final ruleset when it came out), using a combination of one of the conversion threads (I used Joey Virtue's for the final rules, but it's a little deadly) and the PF Bestiary statblocks for monsters instead of the old MM's. Alternatively, you can, as you said, just calculate CMB/CMD for the statblocks as written and run it that way; I've done that for short modules. Depending on how familiar your players are with the PfRPG rules, they may or may not even notice.

Welcome to the AP line.

First and foremost, the first four APs (RotRL, CotCT, SD, and LoF) were done before Pathfinder was official but after Paizo had decided to keep publishing using the OGL. You'll notice that these four Adventure Paths are labelled (OGL) and not (PFRPG) like the newest ones.

Now, many of the monsters grabbed from the Monster Manuals have been reprinted in the new Bestiaries so really, that's a simple plug and play. Some of the NPCs may need a little conversion work, but that's honestly much simpler than it looks.

You can run it in Pathfinder no sweat and it is fun.

hmmm I guess it is labeled but in my eyes it should be more clear...this is the first adventure path that I purchased. There should be a note or a call out or something on the main page and on each book that is a little bit more clear (yes for newbies like me). I would probably would not have purchased had I known....(ok vented will stop complaining!)

Are there any big gotcha's I need to worry about if I do a simple conversion (calculate CMD/CMB)? I will pull everything from the Bestiaries where I can but my thought was magic items and high level play? Should anything in there break anything??

I will also start doing a little research on the conversion also

First major difference is that classes get a feat every odd level instead of every three.

Some classes are radically different from their 3.5 counterpart. Off the top of my head, sorcerers with their bloodlines, paladins with a revamped Smite Evil, and bard with... well, revamped everything, are examples of things to look out for.

Rogues can sneak attack constructs and undead now.

Barbarians can read. HUGE buff in my opinion and totally makes them OP ;)

I'm sure others will chime in.

Hey just a thought...it would be nice if Paizo include a conversion or stat blocks for this AP for there Core system. Heck I would even buy it...just a thought. I see that there are few people already doing this which is great! Great community around this game...

Issue with time and priorities I'd imagine. It's con season so they've been pretty busy driving things through for Paizocon and the upcoming GenCon this week. Also, if I recall correctly, Second Darkness wasn't as well received as it could've been. There was some issues with one adventure rubbing players the wrong way and I think at the time, some people had become exhausted with drow. Which admittedly, drow have been getting overdone for awhile now with 3.5. Hell, over at the DnD front page, it is littered with more drow and drider articles.

But who knows... only time will tell.

Most of the time you can actually run their 3.5 stats and be just fine. But here's some helpful links I discovered while running Rise of the Runelords (pre-Anniversary Edition).

Second Darkness (somewhat incomplete) Pathfinder conversions available from the PFSRD.

Shadow in the Sky
Children of the Void
The Armageddon Echo
Endless Night
A Memory of Darkness
Descent in to Midnight

Most of the major NPC's aren't stat'd but the conversions are fairly easy. The major thing is CMB/CMD calculations which is straightforward.

I was going to mention the d20PFSRD site as well, but Memento Mortis beat me to the punch.

Seriously, bookmark that site, I use it ALL the time, especially for stuff like this!

I ran Runelords using the Pathfinder Beta rules and it went fine. The only thing I really needed was the CMB and CMD. I did not have worry about converting anything else.

I ran CotCT with the Pathfinder rules and did the same.

And I am still in a LoF campaign doing the same. It is not a big deal. I know there are conversions out there and that is nice but really not necessary to run the APs.

After having to convert those CMBs and CMDs I prefer to run APs written for Pathfinder RPG but it is really not that big a deal.

(I agree that it's confusing that Paizo calls everything "Pathfinder".)
