Use to be you could trip over a sack of five hundred silver coins and not have to kill a Halfling for it...so much so it was like some sicko was gluing the buggers to the floor of the dungeon for a laugh and the glue gave out.

What did you think of unguarded treasure? Was it worth your time to bend over and scrape up those copper coins or were you one of those cynical bastards who had his eye on the orc sitting on the chest of his own dung?

"Cor! What the ek you duin in me privy?"

The Exchange

Unguarded treasure?

The inner Rogue in me says "Check for traps."

The inner Barbarian says "Lets find some smash targets."

The inner Cleric says "Whatever." Unless it is a Cleric of Abadar, then its "Don't bother checking, its probably safe."

The inner Wizard in me says "... Nah..."

The inner Alchemist in me says "Gold? Man, I wish it were lead."

The inner Druid in me says "We don't need no stinking "Material Possessions.""

The inner Monk in me says "I'll guard the door."

Any way you look at it, it's still gonna be there when we get back.

I think the only characters I have that wouldn't have immediately thought it was a trap would have been my Hellbred Binder from a homebrewgame and my Illumian Paladin/Crusader from our Age of Worms campaign. (Who, perhaps obviously, had 8 and 7 WIS respectively.) I'm pretty confident every other character I've played would have been extremely suspicious and examined the area in great detail looking for the trap connected to Free Money.

Also whichever GM did the orc thing is evil. Perhaps mad and brilliant, but most definitely evil. I think my players would murder me if I pulled something like that.

The orc thing?

The inner Bard in me says "Ooooh! Shinies!"

1 person marked this as a favorite.

In old school games that bag of 500 sp is basically 50 free xp. Of course that's 50 xp split with the whole party, so that's not much, but hey free xp!

Edit: Wouldn't this fit better in Gamer Talk?

You might think so but deep down you know this is definitely going off topic.

Leprecauns are into fertilizer...because it grows pretty rainbows.

ah yes.. like that unguarded stone chest with
444 5000gp black sapphires
444 5000gp star sapphires
444 5000gp jacints
1 headsized 200.000gp emerald (and stated to be near impossible to sell, but easy to have stolen)

All unguarded, no buried owls nor strings attached. All free vast pile of wealth that could be found in undermountain beneath waterdeep by going iirc left, left right thru a portal or two by accident. Not even eny monsters on that road.. :D
