Creating a "whip sword"

Homebrew and House Rules

I'm looking to create a single handed weapon with range that deals lethal damage or a "whip sword" not an Urumi. My idea for it is as follows

Exotic: 1d2 small 1d4 medium, distracting, 10ft of reach one handed sword deals lethal slashing damage, can't be made non-lethal damage.

suggestions? or does this seem balanced?

Generally 1d4 medium damage means 1d3 for small.

I love it! I always cringe when I see the required Exotic Weapon Proficiency Feat but in this case it definitely fits.

MyTThor is right, 1d3 for small seems right. What's your thought process on the "distracting" quality? What does that do again?

BTW: is this inspired by Ivy from Soul Caliber?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I came to this thread expecting stats for Ivy's animated sword. I was disappoint.

Exotic Weapon

1d4 Slashing damage (Medium), 1d3 (Small)
Critical 19-20, x2
Reach, Distracting

Looks good to me.

Distracting does not compute.

A whip that simply deals lethal damage sounds ideal for this. If it's a reall long, sectioned/chained together sword, you might treat it as one size category larger for damage. Other than that, this shouldn't be a super-weapon.

I have used a weapon for NPCs

It's a Long sword that breaks into numerous small chevrons connected by links.
Whip Sword:
Exotic Weapon
1d8 Slashing damage (Medium), 1d6 (Small)
Critical 19-20, x2
Reach and Trip in whip form BUT can be used in base to base as well with a swift action
Switch between Whip form and sword form as a swift action.

Distracting gives you a +2 on feint attempts and I added this because it's not all that cool of a power and I added it because if you're able to use a whip sword which in and of itself is distracting you would be able to make it look like your going to attack form one direction then have the tip of the sword come in from the other direction as if it were a feint so distracting makes sense to me.And no I didn't take this from sole caliber I just wanted a one handed sword with reach and that was something that has been attempted to be made in real life but never successfully and thanks for the help
