Question: Removing Prerequisites for Item Creation Feats?

Homebrew and House Rules

Hello everyone, quick question:

Would you consider it gamebreaking if one would allow characters to take item creation feats at any level?
But OF COURSE keep the caster level requirements for ACTUALLY crafting any magic item.

Why not let clerics brew potions of CLW at level 1?

Why no druids with rings of animal friendship at level 3?

Or a wizard with a ring of feather fall at level 1?

Would it really be game breaking?

Not really, sure it's a little power boost, but it's pretty small in the big picture. Usually the limiting factor in crafting is money and time and this doesn't take either of those away.

There might be some way to exploit this stuff, but I am not usually too concerned about that stuff, pretty much any game with even moderate complexity can be broken by a player if they want to. Our group just plays with "Gentlemen's agreement"

It might be somewhat gamebreaking yeah, mostly depending on Spellcraft scores and how closely you adhere to WBL.

See, the CL requirement for magic items is actually NOT a requirement except in a few special cases.* What actually happens is that the CL+5 is the DC on the itemcrafting roll (generally a Spellcraft check, which you can Take 10 on). So if a 1st level priest got Brew Potion, and his Spellcraft bonus was +5, he can make CL 10 potions without risk.

The big things determining if any of this is going to happen is 1) Feat Availability, 2) Money. There's a number 3, namely making the check's difficulty, but for a somewhat built-for-it character, those DCs aren't very difficult. Consider that a level 5 wizard could have a Spellcraft bonus of 4 int + 5 ranks + 3 class skill + 3 skill focus = 15, without doing anything wacky. That means he can Take 10 to make CL 20 items.

*Mainly weapons/armor: your CL needs to be 3x the bonus you want to put on it.

Yeah, I just reread the item creation rules.

The caster level isn't a prerequisite, but if using my adjustment, maybe they SHOULD?

But without the proper money, there is good use making them.

Yeah, a little money pooling and a level 4 party with Craft Rod could afford a Lesser Metamagic Rod of Quicken. I hope I don't have to explain why this would be terribad.

Yes it would. Because making magic items is duck stupid easy in Pathfinder.
