Welcome one and all! In the spirit of strong community and the idea that it is never too early to advertise, I'd like to announce plans for my tavern! The Oaken Aegis will be open to any who respect her rules. Its pretty common sense stuff, no fighting or trying to force your views on others. Hopefully you guys and gals will stop on by and see what we'll have to offer. Who knows, maybe you'll make a few friends, business partners, or even form a party while you are there. Right now I'm hoping you would be so kind as to leave me with some good feedback or ideas about what you think people might be looking for or other services I could provide. I plan on being the best cook and brewer I can be, but the kitchen can be demanding so I'll be looking for some help for the right price. I'll need an attentive wait staff, a few respectable bouncers, and of course a variety of bards and performers to provide the right atmosphere. I'm toying with making a website to go with it where people can post on a job board in a forum like setting. You would be able to post requests, or you can leave contact info and offer services that you are willing to perform. Feel free to post advertising of your own business on my board as well. Thanks for your time and looking forward to seeing you in the future!

Just set up a chance for people to meet and greet, figure out what they want to do, and head on out. Obviously try to park your tavern on a travel nexus. If they end up having food and drink be a buff, obviously try to carry a whole line of them.
I would also suggest a healthy supply of your basic consumables, such as potions of cure light wounds, alchemist fire, etc. Nothing too fancy, but the stuff that adventurers will want and need on 90% of their outings.

Thanks for the good wishes, Nihimon! You can be an official taste tester as I put together my master cook book!
That is worth considering, Alexander... I could easily add an alchemist to the staff to keep up with potions and consumables. I wonder how a Cure Light Wounds potion would taste when added to a meal? Cure Light Chicken Noodle Soup... instead of consuming just when you are sick, it also works with being stabbed, shot, blunt trauma AND paper cuts! Seriously though thanks for the input and idea :)

Thanks everyone for the support! I've never made a site, before today that is. It's pretty basic right now and like most things, we'll only get out of it what we put into it. I figure people can discuss things about the game on the site, and transition to an actual job board once the game is released. I'm going to try to keep it up to date and interesting, I just ask people drop by and tell me what you think/ how it can be improved. Again it is pretty free form and that was intentional, I'd like to see the commmunity help develop and shape this project. :) So, without further ado...

Good thinking Lictor. It is fun for me to get the inn up and running of course, but the real motivation behind it is to get people talking and enjoying themselves. Changed the forums around to have an In Character and Out of Character area, and things appropriate to each topic. Thank you again, and hope to see you there!

Camlo, you got me thinking... with your comment about 'you-chips' . Threecopper potato wedges! Think of it, potato strips with seasoning, cheese, and some bacon on top. This could be bigger than me! *seems to remember he's not quite 3 foot tall* Well, we'll just say this could be big in general. *coughs*

It does sound very yummy indeed! As for unhealthy, I wouldn't sweat it too much. I'm in shape... because rounds a shape! *chuckles* But don't worry, gathering materials and working your trade should keep you fit, and I hear fighting monsters burns off a lot of fat to help you keep your wonderful figure.

That's a perfectly reasonable proposal, so I will attempt to poetically point out the possibilities. Potentially, this could make the tavern quite prosperous by putting our combined prowess into a most powerful and potent of pints, "Saltlik Copper Ale". I place utmost importance on providing the very best to my patrons, seeing all the pieces of the puzzle and being painstakingly thorough when putting them together. Some parts of it include proper atmosphere, pouring only the best of brews, hiring only performers pulsing with energy, and avoiding being pushy with guests. I'm not trying to persuade them by being phony. The pull of my establishment is they know I personally care about how they are treated. No matter the obstacle I persevere and strive for perfection, be it with one person or a party of 6. If you were in their position, would you particularly want to put up with service sub-par? This is what it means to me to be the proprietor, serving each meal like it could be the pinnacle of my success. I'll grab some pen and parchment, permitting you are still interested and I have proven my own credentials, I say we begin our planning post-haste!

I like this. Advertising your business so far in advance. I would suggest you setup near Great Legionnaires. We'll be trying to build a port along the river so you could get some patronage from that, and us as well.
Plus if you are near us and some bandits try to burn your place down or demand protection money we'll deal with it for a round of free beers. ;)
Whatever the case best of luck to you though. I'm sure well stop by if our patrols take us near it. Might have to make sure that they do once you have a spot picked out.
Oh, and will this be purely a tavern, or more of an inn?

Thanks for the kind words :) I would really enjoy a Great Legionnaire presence near my Tavern. Not trying to be pushy or in your face about religion, but as a follower of Erastil I'm all about being an aid to forces of good and helping build a strong, stable society. A river side tavern would be just perfect! Think of how well the community could fare from being close to a water supply, easier transportation, and of course my herb and vegetable garden would most likely thrive! And I'm sure I could throw out a free round of beers for many reasons, from bandits to just you guys and gals being willing test subjects for new recipes!
This will be an establishment of many purposes. The main draw is the fact that it is tavern for friends to gather at, it also will provide respite to weary travelers as an inn, build a feeling of community as place to find or accept work with a job board, maybe even carrying goods that you might randomly need and the occasional wondrous item like a general store that is always open. Finally, depending on how far outside of tamed lands we settle, it might function as a temporary trading post for raw materials a while. Once someone else comes along who wants that business I'll be happy to pass it along. What I don't want and what it won't be is any sort of supplier of serious goods. No weapons, armor, spells, nor any other sort of processed good will be carried. I want to help the town we make, not monopolize it. I will be happy to point patrons in the direction of the best weapon or armor smith I know, or recommend a great contractor to construct buildings for you, and even tell tales of a certain group of legionaires that champion the local area if someone needs aid. Hope this explained my plan well, and feel free to ask anything I may of left out.

We would be most pleased to welcome one such as yourself, Mr. Blackwind, affluent to the arcane threads that weave throughout our existence while still maintaining a moral code and humble path. You'll be happy to know my cooking expertise will hopefully keep everyone in good shape. *pats belly* Round is a shape too, after all. Though I hear that whole seeing the world and occasionally saving it is great cardio.
Mr. Squil, I would glad to have your brews be served in my establishment.
The way things are sounding I may have a few of the best brewers in the business making beverages for my shop! It could go on the shelf next along with the Saltlik Copper Ale. Healthy competition between brewers brings better drinks all around.
Speaking of healthy competition, maybe I can get a little semi-organized gambling going on in one of the rooms. Cards or dice or whatever people would like to get going.
