Gotcha.

So you are suggesting that Aretas is actually just trolling us by pretending to be a nutcase extremist?

IOW, his own link makes ClimateGate out to be criminal act by parties unknown, who probably were global warming deniers, that definitely shifted public opinion, but revealed nothing wrong with the science.

Bets on whether this will be acknowledged? Anyone?

I'll start holding my breath now, shall I?

Lads, lads, there really is no need to insult or ridicule someone for disagreeing with you.

Be civil about the debate. It's better for everyone in the end.

That was perfectly civil speculation about Aretas' true nature. That I really hope is true, but fear is not.

Now you're going to tell me there's no santa claus!

Please, Santa Claus and The Devil are the same; it's your dad.

I was going to comment about the plethora of links listed, including the non-quoted calling-out I received, but then I noticed that not only was 'ClimateGate' referenced, but a website that fell fully into the terrain of Rick Berman-style obfuscation and blatant disingenuous distraction. You'll forgive my skepticism rising at any website name that ends in scam.com - especially if you've seen the list of sites that Berman has used to promote patent falsehoods and deflections. His wikipedia page is informative and civil, without being defamatory or excessively accusatory. Searching his name in your engine of choice will result in less...measured...results. Like this one.

Citing a site of his is not unlike citing Drudge Report as a valid source of journalism.

I'm not against renewable energy so long as it is economical and better than what we have now. I've seen studies that show a ratio of 3-1 when it comes to producing renewable energy. Meaning to make 1 "unit" of renewable energy it takes 3 "units" of gas, electric, nuclear.

I don't think Americans are using less energy, gov't is taxing it to try and discourage its use and give rise to expensive alternative energies that are not ready for mass production.

Gov't should not be in that business and gov't should stay out of the way when it comes to planning economies. Let the market drive demand.

Few things.

How can extracting oil from the ground cost LESS than: the sun. It's there all the g$!@$%n time dude. Energies not ready for mass production? The sun has been burning for billions and billions of years.

Market drive demand? You mean the oligopoly of big energy corporate giants that have a vested interest in the status quo? Why, pray tell, would they mess up a good thing they have? Why would they promote an energy source they can neither control nor profit from?

The government IS there to act as a countercyclical force, and to deal with externalities and other market failures. Collusion, whether directed by corporate board members or simply a confluence of interests, is a market failure. The market has failed. Got that?

Dude, the sun is there but how do we harness that power? You have to make something right to do so? Come on.

WHY?

How on earth do you make money discouraging the thing you make money off of? Show me the math, show me an example. You are trying to discredit the vast majority of well respected scientists in their area of expertise. You think you know this better than they do but you can't seem to deal with a concept as simple as a motivation for the conspiracy.

It may be we have an ideological conflict.

I don't believe the government should force renewable energies on the population, that will further eat into their incomes when cheap energy sources are available. If the market allows for cheap renewable energy to develop great, if not stop pushing it. Command economies do not work, like I said we may have ideological differences.

I'm not advocating a conspiracy, its just showing governments tentacles are in everthing we do. You think renewable energy sources will be free when government gets to it? I think not.

To answer the last question.

The global warming alarmists are attempting to use cap & trade.
Along with that businesses ranging from fast food restaurants to grocery stores around the nation are paying fees to local and state Enviromental offices for having combustion equipment like HVACS & grills. Its a money grab and they will twist the data to support their argument.

Climate change is a vast conspiracy to profit local and state governments through fees on grills and HVAC equipment?

Thank you, I'm sure that's the funniest thing I'm going to read all day. :)

It could be for you, considering you probably have not worked a day in your life.

Its an example of how much governement takes from business owners. Every time a business pays its gas, electric, garbage disposal, ect, it pays the local, county and state a fee each and everytime. This is done in the name of "environmental reclamation".

Like I said, since you have not worked a day in your life you would not get it.

You know, this is the kind of crap people get pissed at you about.

Do you have any reason for thinking he hasn't worked his whole life? Other than that he doesn't agree with you?

For the record, I've worked for about 25 years and I thought that was a massive joke as well.

Photovoltaic? Derp?

Aretas wrote:

Its a factual conflict, because of your ideology and how you go about deciding that facts are true.

To you, facts are true when they support your ideology. Facts are false when they are not. This is a horrible way to determine reality and its going to lead to trouble.

You believe that a small minority of climate scientists are right and the majority is wrong because of your ideology. You believe that climate gate proves global warming is fake because of your ideology. You believe that the government gains money by perpetuating the global warming hoax because it fits your ideology.

They aren't doing anything for solar power and wind power that they haven't done for oil coal and gas. Quite a bit less.

In what year was the US strictly a Market economy?

It has ALWAYS been a balance between the two.

Right, but historically speaking its like you've walked passed Cuthulu the oil company, sauntered past the giant squid of natural gas, spot some calamari over at solindra and say "OH MY GOD ITS GOING TO EAT ME!!!!"

Government has always been involved in business. for your sky is falling doom and gloom you need something other than 'the government is there!' to convince rational people to flip out.

OK, trainwreck over. You want to talk about Google queries about guns, try again in another thread. You want to talk about renewable energy, start a thread about that topic. But this one is done.

Also please note that a) not every thread has to become about government regulation, no matter how strongly you feel about it, and b) we are requiring touchy political and religious threads to remain on topic, even if this is the off-topic forum, so no threadjacking for your personal hobbyhorse.
