Question about GM credits

Now, I've read and re-read through the guide to see if this was mentioned there, and I haven't seen anything about it.

I've heard that you can take a higher tier chronicle sheet, cross off the gold, items, boons, etc, and apply them to an un-played, 1st level character with 500gp, 1exp, and 2pa on the sheets, allowing you to apply 3 to a 1st level to bump them up to 2nd level.

Is this true, or have I listened to the talk of crazy-people again?

That, I believe is incorrect. I have to double check, but I believe that is incorrect. As far as a higher tier, it becomes available the moment your character hits the lowest subtier of that scenario, and that's the reward that you get. You don't get the XP or PA until that time.

Again, cross off the boons and items that your character didn't fall into the subtier for, and remember, if you are between subtiers, always round down.

Right. That much I was aware of, I'd just heard of the afformentioned side-option. If what's outlined in the guide is the only option, I guess I just won't be applying higher-tier credits to anything. XD

I'd much rather play my characters of 5th level and above than give them credit (unless they've got negative levels they can't afford to remove, etc).

As John states above, this can't be done with GM credit; the relevant rules are on pp. 30-31 of the PFS Guide. Note that people playing a 4th or 7th level pregen PC can do this with their player credit, which may be where the confusion has arisen.

This part is never possible, even for pregen PC credit. Each one is applied to a new PC, not a 1st level PC with 1 or 2 XP.

Fair enough. I'd just take it as an opportunity to broaden my stable of higher level PFS PCs and start more low level ones!

That's pretty much what I'd been expecting since there was nothing about it in the guide. I can see where they may have gotten their information confused, and I'll make sure to give 'em a heads up when I see them next.

Thanks for the clarifications folks!
