I've run many games with women players that were awesome. In fact, some of the most entertaining people who have sat at my table were women. I think the problem is that in the situation you described, there was a person who joined the table so that they could be around another person. She had no interest in the game - it had nothing to do with her gender.

In fact, I can tell a similar story with the genders switched. I had a female player who was really into the game and she was a great role-player (she was a little lass who played a big half-orc barbarian and you believed she was that half-orc). She started dating this guy and he came over to play a few times and it was clear that he thought it was nerdy and stupid and that we were all losers (even though he was unemployed and bumming off his mother and the rest of us were all scientists/engineers). He really spoiled those games. We told her and she stopped inviting him. They eventually split - lets face it, they didn't share any interests.

That being said, I have had a similar experience to the one you described except the player always had to bring his wife. He was great, she didn't want to play the game but she did want "hang out" with his buds. She had a character that he made for her. She would do crossword puzzles or crochet until it was her turn and then she would roll her die and say "Great, I rolled a 20 for flying...I am now flying".

Haven't read the thread, but for what it's worth, I've GM'd for my wife with no issues.

Me too. My wife frequently plays. She is busy but when someone can't make it she fills in with her dwarven cleric who mysteriously shows up from time to time. Problem is that the last time she showed up mysteriously to help the group she was killed by a lich. She was pissed but it was a great game. After a few hours she forgave me. I told her it wasn't my fault it was RNG.

I've seen this in a game of mixed ( men/ women ) gamers, 1 girl was totally fine, the other was needy as hell.

We tried to deal with it in an adult manner, but the needy chick was manipulative as hell and eventually "deep sixed" the game.

Your mistake was declaring your gaming group as the He-man Woman Haters Club when you had the chance

I don't think the OP said he was a woman hater.. or he didn't wan't or care bout a mixed group of gamers..

What he said was he minded this needy chick ruining his game.

Maybe he shoulda called the group No Ma'am =P

Has anyone here ever had a woman or S/O in general destroy a game?

Maybe not outright said it, but his actual wording did leave a lot to be desired ;)

We're not really thrilled with the framing of this thread. Invitations to dogpile sexist comments and stupid jokes don't go well and end up alienating people who don't happen to be heterosexual males, as well as heterosexual males who aren't meatheads. Maybe try the thread again sometime without the "women destroy fun" part.
