Quintessa Maray

A little extra I've added for Lady Quintessa Maray:

I've decided that she's an agent of Nyrissa, sent to keep an eye on the civilized races. She's a consummate spy who's infiltrated many places in Brevoy and the Stolen Lands.

IMC, one player gave me a background detailing a witch he saved at a campsite. This is her first appearance. Using her connections, she got the PC assigned to the expedition. She's told this PC she's an agent of the Swordlords keeping an eye on each expedition. She shows up at Oleg's once a month and the PC gives her a full update on everything that is happening. If bad things happen in kingdom building, she may well be behind it.

In Varnhold - haven't decided her role yet.

In Fort Drelev - she's Lady Quintessa as written.

In Pitax, she's the bard that represents Pitax in the boasting competition.

Thousand Screams - Haven't read it yet. Not sure if she makes an appearance here or not - not sure if she'll live that long.

Is she still just a human bard? Not sure yet. It's early and I don't have to decide.

I did a similar thing with one of the npcs I used in our prelude.

Burrel Tollen is a half elf (in appearance) who happens to hold the position of Marshal of Resotov. He is however, a Fey working for Lady N in the thousandbreaths. The Marshal of Restov is a combination of head of the city militia(police force), and head of the city council. Using his political influence, he’s wrangled the crown to support the Swordlords efforts to send expeditions into the stolen lands.

IMC I have the swordlords functioning as independent houses all jockeying for power. Restov sees the need for potential expansion, and used Burrel as a mouthpiece to gain the favor and support of the Brevic Crown. Burrel is playing all sides though like this: He’s gained support of the crown, and they are funneling monies to him. He’s told the swordlords that the crown backs the idea of the expeditions so long as the Swordlords pony up the cash. Meanwhile, he’s funneling the crown’s cash into the stolen lands into Lady N’s allies. All the while, the contracts/charters for the exploratory teams need to be purchased from his office, with the clause that all findings come back to his office. Hence he’s got intel on the region as the charter groups explore, in preparation for Lady N’s return! He’s also working a spy network amongst the charter groups to help steer things as he sees fit – if any one group begins to get too sucessful, he’s got a lever he can potentially utilize to help re-align things. And since the Swordlords, and pretty much all of Rostland, are upset with the crown, there’s strife, and thus poor communication happening, allowing Burrel to continue with his underhanded methods!

Interesting, I like having her as an agent and recurring lesser-villain. Maybe you could lay a trail from Grigori towards her, but of course, the PCs won't be able to connect the dots until too late.
