weekly william's group. ill miss the first week and show up the second.
what i know of the party
My cousin is playing a human cleric (likely a do it all build or something)
dale is playing a dwarven fighter (likely sword and board)
kevin is playing a witch
seth is going to be on a temporary hiatus but will show up later in the campaign and likely play cheese
aaron is going to play a battle cleric or a 2WF build
javier will most likely play some kind of caster (don't know which yet)
i don't know what lyle will play but it will use obscure rules loopholes
matt (last i heard) is playing a gnomish rogue who wants to go wizard then arcane trickster, but he shows up every other week.
i have a few ideas i wish for votes on.
Kira Moonsong, Female Elf Rogue who will go wizard then arcane trickster, cover the rogue role. essentially an anal retentive neat freak elf who was raised by tengu foster parents in a human settlement. couldn't afford her academy lessons upfront, so she runs errands to pay for her lessons as a Go Fer.
Jadelocks, male Oread Martial Artist, an exile from minkai who bums off the cheaper parts of the shackles, smells like booze, hard as stone, and a wise jerk who comes off as an abrasive asshat. jadelocks is his nickname which derives from his jade hair, easier for people to remember than his real name.
Conflitta Ignatius, an impulsive, irrational chelexian fire elemental bloodline sorceress with anger issues and a daddy complex. her father is an earl and she is spoiled an confrontational. but quite a skilled linguist, and can be very persuasive. timing her fits of anger advantageously.
Nera Moonwhisper; Female Chelexian Magus. sent by her uncle to serve as a trade messenger, she got captured by pirates and forced to work.

.
That's true of any game except a pirate game where PCs should be rock stars with a big cup of poor impulse control :-)

Says you. With the sort of pirate character I'd play, if someone on my crew was an "abrasive asshat" or "spoiled and confrontational," I'd throw them to the sharks.

Given that with such a big party class isn't really a concern, I'll just sort of run through what I think of your ideas.
I'd say a Chelaxian would have the most fun in this campaign (or at least the biggest tie. Check with your GM!) Considering my low, low, opinion of Oreads and other elemental races, (and why an earth elemental is a pick for a sea-faring game) I REALLY like what you've done with Jade Locks, but he doesn't sound like anyone I'd want to play for a whole campaign, but I can't make that call for you. Definate +1 for Capoeira though.
Also I'll NEVER understand why so many people want to play forlorn or foster child elves. When I play an elf I want to play an elf, and not half-arse about it. I also love the elf PC is likely leaving behind centuries of wine, comfort, scholars and song to go adventuring, not to mention their lifelong friends. The nostalgia, loneliness and homesickness is one of my favourite things about elf characters, and this AP is as far from elf-town as you can get so I reckon it'd be great.
Just sharing my thoughts, I don't want to be that guy that dictates what anyone should or shouldn't play (even if that is the purpose of this thread) but given that you're asking for advice, there you go!

I and I still say Jade Locks be de best character, de way him move will be poetry.
Although I also like Bleeding Rain, ask your GM if you can play a kuru (see Isles of the Shackles for rules details).
